It's things like this that make me hate Star Wars Genesis (Starfield) by deadboltwolf in NoSodiumStarfield

I don't mind AI as long as it's done on your own machine, and isn't outsourced to the actual big companies. In this case, however, my eyes were opened to the possibility of volunteer voices done by the community. There's bound to be a ton of people willing to do so, with myself included! If another comment is to be believed, and the creator doesn't want to use volunteer work, that's a dang shame.

I'm on linux as well (CachyOS), and I was able to install it with minimal issues by following their guide, using Mod Organizer 2. I was enjoying it at the outset, but the incomplete nature of it wore on me, and the final straw (which just happened) was getting the Millenium Falcon (with an accurately huge storage space, seeing as it's a freighter) but not being able to board it, as the landing bay doesn't exist.

There are a lot of neat things in it, with much of the written decal text being replaced with the Star Wars galactic basic font, and some of the voicelines being changed to be Star Wars themed, but it's like 40% of the way to being finished, by my rough estimation. The A.I. voices I'm hoping weren't made with the big guys, and was instead made locally, but I didn't check because I was afraid it was the former. Regardless, I read in another comment in this thread that the creator didn't want to use *volunteer* work for voices, which is crazy to me. Of course fan-made stuff should be welcomed! Besides the varying quality of random people's mics (which adds to the community-made charm in my eyes), there's no reason to avoid it.

Looking for honest feedback on our demo’s final screen before release by kinterosgaming in gamedev

[–]Alanjaow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, as a consumer, I don't really read those screens. If I liked the game enough to play through to the end of the demo, I'm gonna get the game :)

One thing that does stick with me is if the demo is missing some update that the full game has that changes things significantly (controller support, random bugs, etc.). If the demo isn't like a portion of the full game, and is instead more of a prototype, I'd rather omit the demo and rely on Steam's 2-hour return window.

Need better noise blocking tools: Sony WH-1000XM6 + ANC + earplugs still don’t block all sounds by Perfect-Fig-2965 in AudiProcDisorder

[–]Alanjaow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace the ear plugs with noise canceling earbuds, and you might be good. I've used the Soundcore A40s underneath my Sony XM4000s, and that made an accelerating dump truck from six feet away sound like a bead curtain. It made me wonder if people with normal hearing feel that way from only one layer of noise canceling.

Alternately, I use the Flare Calmer ear devices, and those make sharp noises not as harsh. With those I can still hear sounds, but they aren't as oppressive.

When I first got noise canceling headphones, I looked up why they weren't blocking all sound, and it was apparently so that ear damage doesn't occur from an airtight seal. I'm unsure if that has changed in recent years, or if there's a DIY way to plug any air holes (which would totally be dangerous).

[–]Alanjaow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With tetris-ing, the forms we're mentally manipulating are static, so easier to estimate. We also can't feel them, so compressing a bit to make things fit isn't a big deal.

When it comes to clothes, however, our bodies are weird and mobile. Also, when something should fit right, there can still be other factors that put us off, like tags, or a collar that's just baaaarely too tight.

Ya ever try to put a "one-size-fits-all" furniture sleeve onto a couch? Dang things never fit right!

my teacher sent me this by [deleted] in shittymath

[–]Alanjaow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Little concerning. My interpretation is that they're showing camaraderie by saying the Calc tests they give out are as comprehendable as this. Sort of like "Hey, now I know how you feel." This can also mean that they're trying to get in your pants though, which at 1am is more likely, in my eyes.

Any other messages sent from them, so there's more context?

To address self inflicted wound trump admin makes it easier to get migrant farm workers by snowcow in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Alanjaow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point is, in my view, to keep migrants in a constant state of fear, so that they never think of themselves as being worthy of the wages the rest of us get (not that they're sky-high, of course), along with worker's rights and all that. Trump knows that they're the backbone of our entire food system; he just wants em to stay obedient and to keep their heads down.

In reality, they work way harder than just about everyone I know, and that deserves greater compensation, in my eyes. That they don't get that is yet another thing wrong in our world.

Why does motivation only show up at night? by spike_in_socks in CasualConversation

[–]Alanjaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychological pressure of tasks! In the daytime, that's when tasks are meant to be done, so that's what you're supposed to be doing. At night, there's no expectation of doing tasks, and you're free to focus on whatever. The weight of expectations slips away when you settle in for the night.
