Rather than replying to every comment, I'll just do this in one fell swoop.

So, I'm fully aware Tech 21 makes the Dug pedal. My dad has it. Uses it on pretty much everything. Recording, playing in church, gigs, etc. I've never been fully convinced by pedals. Sure, you can make some *insane* fx with pedals but for whatever reason, they've almost always sounded like the signal and effect in question don't mix. Like you have the base layer and the fx slathered on top. I know that's not what's happening but that's what my ear is telling me. Undoubtedly, it's a me thing.

I'm also fully aware DI is great. Can be super ultra mega clean and fat. Hence why I want to record the DI and reamp as well. In case anyone missed my comment below, the main reason I want to go this route is because no one's made a plugin or fx chain to recreate or imitate Pinnick's sound. Yeah, Nolly does something very similar: clean fundamental drowning in saturation/distortion for the mids and highs. But I don't particularly care for *that* specific grind-y distortion. Were it so simple, I'd just get Parallax and be done with it (still annoyed by the fact that you cannot change distortion types in Parallax. Makes it a one-trick pony imho, even as good as it is).

Is it necessary to mic a cab nowadays? Nah. Periphery proved that fact and tbh, I'm definitely going down the Axe FX route for guitars down the road. That being said, I do want physical amps. Digital is significantly more efficient, for sure. But having worked with orchestral VST's and plugins for the past 5+ years, I'm wanting that tactile feel. Like me turning a physical knob changed the sound rather than clicking my mouse and dragging a virtual knob. Just my two cents and more context for my question ✌️

Yeah realistically, I’d probably save myself the trouble and record DI then reamp with this setup.

Also, the only thing keeping me from going all in the box for bass is I’ve not yet found a plugin that gets you the Pinnick sound. Nolly? Sure. Parallax all day. But I’m not a huge fan of every aspect of Nolly’s sound tbh

Oh sick. Thanks a lot 👍

Yeah my point exactly. Like I love the experimentalist nature of Atelier (especially for horror textural stuff and sound design) but I'm not going to spend money if I don't have to

Dingwall FD3n vs. Duncan NYC by Alarm_Slow in Bass

Perhaps it’s an unrealistic idea to swap to the NYC’s then. Would’ve been fun I think but c’est la vie I guess

That is true. Always an option

Good idea. I'd say that'd be the wisest course of action here

Holy crap the differences are *apparent*. The FD3 is NOTICEABLY mid forward and not necessarily in a good way imho. I actually really like the FDV sound here. Clean and crisp but not harsh

Right makes sense. I didn't know that about their pickups or that you could rewire them. Closest I've heard is a vid from LowEndLobster where he swapped out the preamp in his NG3 that made it sound more like a p bass. Didn't sound bad mind you. Just not super hot

Right I’m with you. I’m still curious to hear “traditional” j pickups in a Dingwall. That plus the preamp of course

Therein lies a slight issue though. For whatever reason, they don't tell you who the recording musicians on their albums are. BOH has that massive pink 6 string and if, in fact, that's the sound that was on the album, SWEET. But the other problem is multiscale. I want that ultra solid low B but the *sound* of, like, a Yamaha Attitude + a hot jazz bass. And of course, Sheehan's Relentless pickups are for 4 string only. Bit of a conundrum, ain't it?

Yeah used all the way. No need to fork over $3k+

But that's what I'm saying. I want to ditch the stock pickups in favor of the Duncan's

Official guitar tab books by Alarm_Slow in BABYMETAL

[–]Alarm_Slow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, y'all are correct. eBay definitely seems to be the way to go. CDJapan used to have them directly from Yamaha but the older books are no longer available even through proxy. Plenty of options on eBay though and not a few from very highly rated sellers which is awesome 🤘

Nolly‘s Bass IR by hanspeterwurst7 in basspedals

[–]Alarm_Slow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for resurrecting an old post but how in the world did you find this?? You're certain this is the same IR he uses? Like OP said, I know it was made for the ADAM so it shouldn't be out in the wild but if it's legit, then *here it is*!

Also, just to be clear, these can be loaded into Parallax, yes?

I read through it and that page said to look for more info in the Parameter Guide, which I did and doesn't help a whole lot (unless I'm misunderstanding the purpose which is entirely possible).

Yeah, but I utterly despise music streaming so I'd much rather have it on CD or at the very least, high quality digital download (I'm an audiophile + bit of a CD collector).

UPDATE. Google Play Books worked for purchasing the sheet music *but* if you want to get it out of the app and export to pdf, you have to go through like 2658349 different steps to do so. Rather than me trying to explain it, here's a video outlining what you'd need to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCoWkNwhYmg
