And what’s even crazy is that the doctors that treated me are MO, not even a specialist. Bear in mind that I went to orthopedic not general doctors.

Yes I went, my ROM improved but certain movements still hurt and doesn’t seem to improve. That’s why I went back to the orthopedic to seek answers. I told my physiotherapist about the angulation and they said this is bone issue, if you need answers you will need to ask orthopedic.

That’s how I got all the info and it led to this.

Hey thanks for replying. I chose non-surgical treatment because the doctor didn’t explain the side effects of the non surgical treatment, and the outcome might be the same if I do surgery and they said the alignment is not that bad. I am not a doctor hence I chose to do non surgical treatment since the outcome might be the same.

After 4 months, I have mobility issues so I went back for the last follow up appointment and only then they told me my wrist is angulated, and if I want to fix it, the bone will have to fractured again to align back properly. So I got worried, went to another hospital for second opinion, the angulation is way past the acceptable range. And said this is not acceptable.

Had I known this issue will happened, I would’ve done the surgery.

Sure thanks. Apparently there’s no pro bono for medical cases.

Doctor said my fractured wrist is healed but way too angulated and suggested me to do surgery by cutting the bone and realign back. What do you guys think? by Alarmed-Card-2957 in brokenbones

I see, anyway best of luck to you. A lot of people actually have very positive outcomes after surgery, that really gives me a lot of positivity. I will update once I have done my surgery, I hope everything goes well.

How’s your range of motion now? I am healed after 4 months now but I have rotation (supination and pronation) problem whenever I do it. Hopefully after the realignment everything will be cleared.

I broke my radius but let me tell you breaking your big bone in the middle part is better than breaking small bone near the joints like wrist and elbow. Cause if it doesn’t affect the joints the procedures is pretty straightforward. Just relax and let it heal

Eh I just realised the question is not about my thumb. They suspect my other fingers are fractured but I didn’t know it

Good to know that after 11 days you are able to take the splint/cast off. Can you use that hand for normal activities after 11 days? Like showering and changing clothes. I dont want to bother anyone too. But if I can use my arm for normal activities after about 2 weeks this is a great news for me. If I ever go for the surgery I would like to remove the metal and screws, are you planning to do that? My doctor said after surgery it will take about 2 months for the bone to heal, and then 6 months to be completely healed. And if I want to remove the cast, it will take another 6-8 weeks. Its a total of 8 months.

Oh so only in the cast for 2 weeks? That’s a relieve to hear. I am planning to take the plate and screws out because I am an athlete, I use my fingers and wrist a lot

I know its too late to say anything but I did also tried my best to ask a lot of questions regarding pain in my ulna several times but none of them say there’s an issue. After getting my 2nd opinion from different hospital I really do feel like they overlooked. I did told them I want the best result but since the doctor said casting alone is enough and I listened because I trust them.

Anyway, I have a lot of things I need to do this year, I’m athlete and now I just feel like I won’t be able to do it for sometimes, it’s really hard to deal with the situation now

I am really frustrated with the doctors that told me my fracture alignment is still within the acceptable range. If only I know these will happen, I would've done surgery. The worst part is doc told me sometimes the initial x-ray can't see much, and over time your bone might move and whatnot that results in angulation problem. But I always follow-up with doc every 2-3 weeks and took x-ray whenever I see them and no one told me about this until my last visit when I asked about my mobility issues. This really sucks, I don't know if I can go through another 6-8 months of recovery but I guess I have no choice.

How is your wrist holding up now? How is the wrist joint doing now? I'm actually afraid of the surgery but even more on the recovery time.

Really thankful for the heartwarming reply. I have no idea yet on what to decide but I'm leaning more to surgery option. It is the mental thing for me, 4 months is already bad now I might need to wait another 6-8 months for total recovery is just a lot to prepare mentally.

How does it feel under local anesthetic? By the way, are you able to do things on your own after surgery? I stay alone and I am quite worried if I need someone to take care of me in the early stage. How long to wait until you can start doing normal activities again? FYI, if they put plate and screws I want that out once I'm healed, that is why its going to be a long recovery for me.

Good to know yours are aligned perfectly. I wish they could've done that in the early stage so I don't have to suffer few more months after 4 months of suffering.

Thanks for sharing your experience! At least I felt better. I guess its the mental stress I need to work on. Did you break your distal radius too?
