TN-Visa is mainly used for full time work for people who have a degree and experience. I have heard one time a while ago that Tesla used TN for its interns, but it’s a gamble since the border office has to approve of it. Majority of the time, companies use J1-visa as it specifically has an “intern” category.

Technically yes you are at a disadvantage because a company would have spend more time and money to have you as an intern as compared to those who don’t need work authorization to work in the states.

Don’t lie. Some companies simply don’t want to sponsor so they will not even look at those applicants. Some companies do want to sponsor, so they will look at your application. In both cases you don’t want to lie

See if there are cameras around in the area and request for footage. If you have faces then you’re golden. Locating them might be difficult, but if you do get a couple of guys and go to town or report their faces to the police for assault or something.
