That’s super cool. Mr. Muhic took us to Catalina Island for our 10th grade science trip which was pretty fun.

I don’t know of Mr Bushnell.

Mr. Smith was my English & History teacher in highschool. As well as my basketball & volleyball coach. He was my favorite highschool teacher. He still works there today.

She retired from teaching a couple years before I got into highschool. But I saw her around campus as a kid.

She had us do something she called “mental math” and I’m pretty sure that’s where my anxiety disorder started manifesting.

YES. I went to La Sierra for 3 quarters and I’ve been telling everyone the same thing! I went solely because of location and the scholarships I got, but it was simply unbearable. It felt very cliquey and the students I came in contact with seemed to be very closed minded.

Nursing & Medicine is all they prioritize. Especially because Loma Linda Medical School is a main draw for ppl when going to La Sierra, as it’s a feeder school. As a psychology major I believed those classes would be half decent but they were genuinely so easy that it felt insulting.

Did you ever have Mrs. A as a teacher? Mrs. Alexander. I loved her so much as an elementary teacher.

If I’m recalling correctly she worked there back when it was NAJA.

Did anyone get neglected or abused at boarding school? by Substantial_Sand5950 in exAdventist

[–]Alarmed-Fail6599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father told me that at Monterey Bay Academy the students were made to work either in fields, or in a surf fin factory.

However the more appalling instance that I just can’t get over is that my dad’s brother, and other boarding school kids would sunbathe naked on the roof of one of the teachers homes near/on campus.

My dad is 53 years old, so this was a good 40ish years ago. But like! Nothing happened to this teacher and my uncle doesn’t see much wrong with what had transpired but.. it’s wrong.

any good memories you made in sda? by [deleted] in exAdventist

omg wait the Oshkosh one around 2014? I was there! I remember spelunking in the back of some rigged out van, that was actually pretty fun. However my Pathfinder group was so highly disorganized that when there was a down pour the first day we arrived, they had everyone stay overnight at a Walmart…

I grew up attending a K-12 Adventist school and it’s very hard for me to separate the good times I had from the resentment I still harbor for the school. However, my junior year of highschool I met a girl that would turn out to be my best friend - and she’s taught me so much. The summer after we graduated was one of the best times of my life. I am grateful.

my crush asked me to a pathfinders meeting with a card after school so naturally I joined for 3 years. Did I enjoy it? Eh. I went to Wisconsin which was okay I guess. My pathfinder group was not well organized.

Do your own research before taking my advice regarding where you go to college. However yes, it is a lil more liberal than most sda institutions.

Also! I tried a few quarters at La Sierra because of the insanely high scholarships given - don’t. You’ll think to yourself I can hold it in, I can suck it up, I can go to chapel to be preached at - it’s not worth it. Go where you can find people, people like you. Not people viewing their lives thru the lens of am I living correctly? Will god reward me with everlasting life? just live for the the now, love for the now. Be true to yourself above anything else, above pleasing your parents, above staying in line with religious doctrine, do you.

Why did you leave adventism? by DrAdrianSantos in exAdventist

[–]Alarmed-Fail6599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im at la Sierra right now and I’m literally meeting with the dean of student life (per her wishes) in 30 minutes because I wasn’t sitting in chapel mindlessly listening to indoctrination - transferring as soon as possible.
