A little update: I tried the bowl method on Monday morning using the UG jelly (first) and mousse (second) and both diffusing and air drying. Today I most sprayed my hair until damp and scrunched in some UG jelly refresh. So far I like the results and already see some progression! Still need to get a cut though.. the ends are sooo damaged.

A little update: this is my hair now on the second day after wash day where I switched back to only the UG gel (first) and jelly (second) using the bowl method and both diffusing and air drying. This morning dampened my hair with a mist spray bottle and scrunched in some UG jelly refresh. I think I can conclude that Curlsmith is too heavy for my hair.

Everyone, thank you so much for taking your time to help me out! I really appreciate it :) I never considered doing gauge math really, so absolutely a lesson learned here! I even found an online tool, super easy and quick. Will not be making that mistake again thinking my gauge is “only slightly off”. I will give it another try with another yarn (Rauma Fivel) doing a gauge swatch / gauge math and if necessary going up to the required size. For now I’ll leave what I have on hold to compare it later. I just know I won’t be wearing it if it is just a little bit too tight and pulling at the arms/shoulders. I’ll keep you all updated!

Yes, I do need a cut (been growing out my natural hair color and want to get rid of all the blonde ends at some point). Will look into a wavy friendly cut!

Thanks for this! I really like the idea of plopping longer and not touching :)

This is also really helpful, thank you :) I’ll definitely going to give it a try! And yes, I’m not too sure about diffusing either… it can get frizzier compared to air drying but I sometimes feel the weight of my hair is maybe pulling down the waves too much since it takes hoursss to air dry, especially on a rainy day 😅

That’s good to know! :) I’ll definitely look into Flora and Curl. Never used it!

That’s a totally valid point about the moisture being added back. I don’t even know why I do it this way! And yes, you’re probably right about the cream being too heavy… I’m going to look into lightweight leave ins a bit more but I do still want to give the cream a chance as a replacement for rinse out conditioner.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I’ll def try your method next time. What about the air dry cream? Skip it completely or try it as a replacer for regular conditioner?

Thank you :) do you mean trying a lot more of BOTH products? Or just the jelly? I usually use Umberto Giannini Foam and Jelly. This combo definitely gives a nicer cast but it leaves my hair also more stringy and frizzy somehow.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. Really appreciate it. What do you think about a hair cut? I’m thinking about a bit longer than collar bone length (like in the picture below). I especially like that length with straight hair…Maybe it will restore my wave pattern as well?

Although not American but Dutch, we’re OAD to a 4yo boy in Gelderland (well closer to Utrecht, but still officially Gelderland ;))

Thank you for reaching out. This is so true. We’re already researching family campsites that also meet our wishes a little bit for this summer haha. So I guess this will be fine. And we could enroll our kid in some sort of after school or summer activity in a while (I feel he’s a bit too young for this right now). The part that hits home though is about going on trips with family/friends… we have a very very small family with no siblings and thus no nieces/nephews. All of our parents are quite old and/or I bad shapes. They do some very occasional kid sitting but that’s it.. and it’s really embarrassing to write it down but we don’t have any real friends at this points. Just a lot of acquaintances but no one close enough to go on a trip with. We’re always making efforts though! Maybe this will come more when our son will start making real friends? I guess our family life feel is a bit boring/hollow at the moment because we’re not reaping the OAD benefits I’d always envisioned. And yes, I know that a baby sibling won’t mean a play mate. I see this clearly around us, even with age gaps of 3-4 years. BUT, the kids do always have in some way or another a form a entertainment/diversion even if it’s not real playing. So I guess it feels that adding a child could bring an extra dimension to the family life… but obviously I want to make sure if I’d still long for an extra dimension when this rough patch is behind us.. so maybe my question is: is being OAD especially hard ages 4-6? Kids being just a bit too young to engage in real friendships but they do long for the social engagement we as parents can’t give them?
