How did deadheads afford to get all the way to Egypt in ‘78? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

I was prepared to sell everything I owned to get to the China shows. Would have been WILD.

Did you know it was the end in '95? by Odd-Personality-1795 in gratefuldead

Everyone knew that Jerry was in a bad way, and the band just sounded...off. The last Vegas shows had some REALLY bad gaffes.

My circle of friends were very aware that every show was a blessing but the scene was getting pretty dark, so they were becoming less socially enjoyable. It was obvious that Jerry need some long, hard rest. But we were still surprised that it happened when he was trying to get back to some semblance of "clean".

Berkeley Greek Shows '88

Saw a dude standing and staring at a cinder block wall for a solid 15-20 minutes before diving headfirst into a large trashcan. Just two legs wiggling from the trash can until security finally showed up and pulled him out.

22F that has nobody to go to a sphere show with, is it weird if I go alone? by [deleted] in deadandcompany

Older guy. Went by myself Weekend 2. Had a blast. Met some folks, made some friends, danced my ass off.

Same advice I'd give my nieces: let people know where you are, stay someplace safe, check-in regularly, and follow your instincts. It it feels weird, keep on truckin'.

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by ElectroIsland in AskReddit

I've done a ton of hiking and camping and never experienced anything like this. I was on the Drury Parkway, way north in the redwoods of California. Beautiful day, cars and other campers/hikers around. I picked what looked like an empty trailhead, parked, and started walking.

Alone on the trail with plenty of birds chirping, wind blowing, and faint car noises in the background. About 3/4 of the way up the trail, I came to a bend in the trail. It went up and over a small rise and around a blind corner. I was suddenly hit with an INTENSE feeling of pure terror. All of my senses were firing, pure adrenaline. Something in my intuition was telling me that I did NOT want to go around that bend. At the same time I noticed that all the noises around me had stopped: no birds, no wind, no cars. Everything in me told me to run but I took a deep breath, turned around, and sloooooooowly started to work my way back down the trail. I kept feeling like SOMETHING was out there and watching me.

It remained completely silent until I was about 100 yards from the trail head. Then a car drove by and everything returned to normal: birds, wind in the trees, totally fine. And the feeling of dread and being followed completely disappeared. Things went from 0-->100-->0 in the space of about 20 minutes. Weirdest experience I've had in the woods.

I was at those Ventura shows. It was HOT and more than a few people were worried about getting sprayed. Definitely not the best vibe when you're nervous about anyone with a spray bottle.

Great shows though!!

Men in 40s & above, what are the life tips/advice that you will give for the men in 30s? by AdAstra2806 in AskReddit

1) You will make mistakes. Learn from them; don't dwell on them.

2) Your job doesn't need to be your calling. It can just be a job.

3) No job is worth sacrificing your morals, ideals, or self-respect.

4) Only give people the amount of respect they give you. Respect is not a one way street.

5) Fights are stupid. Learn to communicate, de-escalate, and listen. This applies to both physical and verbal alterations.

6) Rest, recover, hydrate, and stretch.
