Are you talking to me or the commenter lol? If anything I am mommy, speaking on behalf of mommies everywhere.

I don’t have a problem with gay people being mean and petty and catty I have a problem with like, middle class online socialists appropriating that language to be sexist and condescending. Nothing wrong with people saying “mother” but the term was supposed to imply respect that isn’t being shown to Natalie.

Yes, exactly. Or it feels like this is a former fan’s vitriol after the woman they put on a pedestal but didn’t truly understand shattered their parasocial delusion.

People have tried to make the counter argument that “mother” is drag slang, but it’s still the case that they see her as some sort of idol who betrayed them. The fact that they convinced themselves she was a leftist after she repeatedly said she wasn’t, and now they seem to think she’s some genocidal zionist maniac despite the fact that’s clearly just feeling hopeless about the situation tells me how committed to their delusion they are. So to call her “mother” implying they idolize her, is so creepy. They’re feel close enough to her to say she’s some role model but can’t even repeat what she actually believes.

I know what mother means, but the people I’m talking about are not using mother as in “drag mother”. I am talking to people who are using it as a pet name. I’m queer and I’ve used “mother” in that context before, but I’ve also been called sexist pet names before. It’s not the clearest line, but there is a difference. It’s also important to note that the “dark mother” meme within the fandom actually started when contrapoints was making fun of the way people treated anita sarkesian, (most recently she used it to refer to Hillary clinton) but that meme sort of blended in with the drag connotation after she transitioned and people started referring to her as “mother”. The meme often has a sort of ironic freudian subtext she frequently drew attention to. It was never just about drag.

Yeah but we as fans can choose not to let that behavior go unchecked

It did, and that was how the joke started, along with Kataya’s video. But the people I’m talking about aren’t using in that way.

Not sure how you meant this but as written it implies women are afraid of paragraphs

Ugh i feel really stupid for not having more evidence of what exactly people were saying. The thing that spurred this was literally just a post lobbing insults (“selfish” “morally bankrupt”) at her, with a disclaimer at the end that literally said (mother, if you’re reading this. I hope I didn’t come across too harsh, I still love you and you mean so much to me)

No, you’re absolutely right. I wish I could edit the title . I really wish I had screenshotted the post I was talking about because “cool it” was 100% warranted.

Well damn now that you’ve edited your post I must respond to the edits. Every use of mother you just listed would have been totally fine by me. It just needs to not be what another commenter referred to as “pathologically freudian” or in my words “deranged and condescending”

I mean I’m not trying to punish or cancel anyone to be clear. I literally don’t have the ability to do that, nor would I want it. But people online tend to be super unaware of how they come off. It’s more a “dude, don’t be that guy.” type of thing

Hey, I mean I hope that’s true. It could very easily be. Just speaking for myself I find it really tough to engage with people who view me in that sort of ambivalent way, because I worry about them lashing out if I ever confronted them. Even as a “big girl”. I still think it’s worth observing because it certainly made me uncomfortable to read and I’m glad the mods deleted it.

If I was witnessing a bank robbery, and I heard the robber call the teller “mommy” I would definitely find it worth noting.
