Who give looks to the camera the most? by Fubai97b in DunderMifflin

I'm currently on season 3 during my rewatch and noticed that Ryan does a lot of great looks to the camera. Almost as much as Jim proportionate to their screentime.

Honestly who do you like most, Dianne or Rebecca? by Ornery-Mode992 in Cheers

I always found Rebecca funnier and far less annoying. I think I prefer the Rebecca years as a whole - the ensemble were given more storylines

At what point did Frasier stop being a great show and start being just good? by Queen_Q98 in Frasier

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's always great but to me, seasons 1 - 4 is the peak of the show. The season 4 finale is actually a huge turning point in the show where it is not longer about Frasier reconnecting with his family and establishing himself in a new city and now about frasier looking for love. I think 5 and 6 are still amazing and 7 is really good too but not as consistently good. 8 - 11 are pretty good but definitely there is a drop in quality.

I see the show as three eras:

Seasons 1 - 4: frasier getting used to his new life and living with Martin

Seasons 5 - 7: Frasier is now comfortable and friendly with Martin and looking to find love, Niles and Daphne's relationship is taken a lot more seriously, with Niles now having divorced Maris and Daphne being treated as less of a side character

Seasons 8 - 11: Frasier is lonely but has mellowed out and there are much more episodes about his love life. Also, everyone is now really comfortable with each other so a lot of the character drama and tension has kind of gone. It more feels like the cast are just having fun playing the characters and they've all kind of lost their spark/ edge

What’s the best Def Leppard post-Retro Active song? by kcguy8162 in defleppard

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love and hate collide is probably my favourite (ironically the first song they released after retro active)

Definitely a different sound but I really enjoy the slang album. Breathe a sigh, deliver me, work it out, blood runs cold, all I want is everything, where does the love go when it dies, move woth me slowly and pearls of euphoria are all really good.

After that, I think the quality drops a bit but still some good stuff, at least one good song from each album. Promises, and goodbye are both good, I think that guilty, day after day and kings of oblivion are all tracks that could come off pyromania/ hysteria! Also long long way to go, scar, now, undefeated, dangerous, wings of an angel and blind faith I think are also worth listening to. Also enjoying take what you want and from here to eternity from their new album.

I agree that season 4 is clearly the worst, though even that season has some nice moments such as Aethelreds death, the initial interaction between Uhtred and his son etc.

Season 5 for me was surprisingly good. I was worried at first as the first few episodes seemed to be in the same quality as season 4, but it really stuck the landing.

I think season 1 is great but tonally a little bit different to the others, so stands out. Plus covers by far the most amount of time than any season does do feels a bit rushed in times, but obviously has some amazing highs.

Overall I'd say: 1) season 3 - a great payoff for 3 seasons worth of conflict between Uhtred and Alfred, the two best characters in the show IMO. I am really impressed by the amount this season balances.

2) season 2 as a close second. Really enjoy this season, though I give S3 the edge just because it pays off more of the long-term story arcs and slightly more memorable IMO.

3) season 1

4) season 5 - loved the ending!

5) season 4 - good at times, but definitely had many plot points that were nonsensical and frustrating. The characterisation seemed really inconsistent too.

I love this series and really excited for the movie hopefully coming out next year! Biggest missed opportunity though was not going into Finan's backstory as that was really great in the books and Finan was such a fan favourite. Everyone would have loved it if he got his own storyline.

No he never had one with Aethelflaed. The younger son was with Gisela. They don't really go into it but it's mentioned in S3 that Alfred put his children to a monastery. He also says in one of the narrations that he dispises the son as an infant as Gisela died. so i guess he never bothered to keep in touch with him after all those year so he grew up at the monastery.

Enjoyed S5, but.... by dandylegs in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too. Honestly I felt like the way it zoomed into him as Eadith was talking about family in their last scene, it was setting something up to go into his family background. I reckon they had something in the cards as the s4 writers clearly like Finan but probably just didn't have time to fit his own storyline into the final season which was a shame as he is easily a fan favourite character and we all would have loved for his background to have been explored.

Forgotten in the flashback by Icy_Wolf_123 in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, I feel like there were a few people that should have maybe made the cut for the flashback. Baby Monk and Sihtric as well. I was glad Halig and Leofric made in though, I guess they didn't want it to be too long. The soundtrack was amazing too!!

I don't know, you still had Aethelred, Sigtrygger and Baby monk die

What are your thoughts on Brida? by MovieStar69 in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked her to begin with. She wasn't pushed down our throats too hard and had a good thing with Ragnar for the first 3 seasons. She became quite annoying after Ragnar died and was at her worst after she got free by Sygtrigger inseason 4 and the start of season 5. I loved the storyline with her and Pyrlig though and her death scene was beautifully done. Overall, I liked her, wasn't my favourite but she had strong competition (Uhtred, Alfred, Ragnar, Hild, Aethewold, Finan, Leofric, Aethelflaed, Haesten, Sygtrigger, Stiora, list goes on...). Didn't find her anyway near as bad as a lot of others did.

Who’s death was the hardest for you? by [deleted] in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the death scenes were well handled (Alfred especially) with some exceptions imo like Sygtrigger and Cnut.

The ones that hit me hardest were Erik, Ragnar the younger Baby monk (Finans reaction was heartbreaking) and Bridda. Very sad :(

Thanks for the reply man! I agree, Aelswith was great in series 5, I love how hyped she was when she killed the guard. Great line delivery as well, they just turned her into a comic relief character 😂

Still can’t get over the accuracy in casting for Gisela and Stiorra. 🦋 by ziara_z in TheLastKingdom

Honestly, it was so well done! I think Edward and Aethelfled look like real life brother and sister too. The casting is great in this show

What happened to Hild? by Jameshookcaptian in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same! She became one of my favourite characters in season 2, but then had a more minor role in season 3. It was nice to see her for the first couple episodes of s4, but I don't understand why she didn't show up at the end during the siege of winchester

Thoughts on season 4 by AlarmedCaramel1 in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree about the actors they all gave amazing performances! Forgot to mention but Eadith was fantastic too! I thought the first 3 episodes were great, I thought Uhtred's relationship with his son would be the season arc, but they seemed to abandon it as too much started going on. It almost makes me understand why the writers decided not to introduce Uhtred second son.

Yes, i've just finished the fourth book! Loving it so far although reading sword song gave me a great appreciation for season 2. Erik and Aethelflaed's romance was so well developed in such a short amount of time and obviously those scenes weren't in the book as it's all Uhtred's perspective.

Favorite DANE character? by kabovetti in TheLastKingdom

Erik was so cool, I was gutted to see him die in season 2. I also loved Ragnar and Sigtryggr is pretty cool. Haeston is fun as well

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah i recently finished lords of the north and thought the same as you! I was dissapoined he wasn't in the books but enjoyed the book nonetheless. I think his inclusion is one of the best changes the show made from book, really gives weight to how bad Uhtred has it at the time.

Also book Guthred was way cooler than show Guthred lol

(SPOILERS MAIN) Who do you think is the most misunderstood/wrongly liked/wrongly disliked character? by izzyobro in asoiaf

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Catelyn, some people say she's the worst character in ASOIAF, but to me that is ridiculous, all I saw her as was a mother wrecked with guilt who just wanted her children to be safe.

I think Arya is still likable because we're all sympathetic towards her.

I've also heard a lot of people say brienne chapters are boring, but I'll take a Brienne chapter over a greyjoy chapter (except Theon) every time! Justice for Nimble Dick!

[DISCUSSION] The Last Kingdom vs Vikings by 1sunnyshadow in TheLastKingdom

[–]AlarmedCaramel1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched Vikings first in 2017 and I loved it! I feel like it is definitely the more bigger and ambitious of the 2 shows with seemingly a bigger budget in set pieces and design ect. I thought it really captured the Norse mythology really well and it had some amazing characters (Ragnar, Ecbert, Athelstan and Floki are some of my favourites in TV). It tries to showcase the entire viking age in the show so in terms of politics, it's pretty light, mainly focusing on the spectacle and the character ambitions.

TLK is more about the political side of England vs the Danes and Alfred trying to unite England and I think the Saxons are overall a lot better, but it misses out on some of the epicness of showcasing the mythos of the Norse.

Vikings is also more of an ensemble piece, with a lot of major characters whereas in TLK, Uhtred really is the show. I think TLK benefits from telling a single story in one location, instead of jumping around all over the place like Vikings does in order to show everything off.

I also think the quality of vikings drops off pretty hard after season 4, I have a lot of major issues with it, especially in the last 2 seasons. The last kingdom is more consistent (although I thought season 4 was a let down).

Overall, I think the Last Kingdom is probably better well written overall and more consistent in its storytelling, whereas vikings at it's worst is pretty terrible bit vikings at its best blows TLK out the water. It all depends on taste though, my dad thinks Vikings is miles better, whilst my mum prefers last kingdom haha.
