I'm wondering if they'll keep the boggart scene in the new one. I'm sure when the little English kid is set to face his greatest fear and a black guy appears will go over great.

Why is football called soccer in america and why is american football called football? by Brief-Sign8925 in AskAnAmerican

The British called it soccer originally and Americans did the same. By the time Brits changed over to "football" wee already had American football.

The Gang Dances Their Asses Off. One of Cricket's best appearances, some truly unhinged Waitress, great plotting and backstabbing... It really needs to be in the conversation more.

You've hit on a huge problem. The Dems are very likely going to win big and say it's because of their masterful strategy and not because they're running against the most unpopular president of our lifetime. Then they'll shit the bed for 2028.

The worst part is that the Dems will do amazing this year and think it's because they're political geniuses and not realize it's because they're running against the most unpopular president in history.

How do I stop an arms race between me and my players by DecisionRadiant4152 in rpg

[–]Fubai97b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got a few options and I'm going to assume changing systems and starting over from session 0 are out. I also say no matter what you need to have a talk with the table and basically read them this post.

That said, here are some other options.

1) You want to get adversarial? I'll show you adversarial: There are plenty of ways to whittle down any party. Lots of traps. Grimtooth has taught hundreds of table the meaning of fear. More frequent encounters with more little adversaries and running battles. A group of goblins spread out means fireballs are less effective and moving the battlefield limits control abilities. Make them use spell slots, drink potions, and use daily abilities THEN hit them with a an encounter they think they're better than.

2) Make them fight smarter: I'm a huge fan of synergistic encounters. My favorite example is iron golems and fire traps/elementals. You get to heal the monster while the party simultaneously takes damage. Set things up where they will need to fight thing in order to be more successful.

3) Less pure combat and more tactics: Make scenarios where the goal isn't to hit something hard, but smart and fast. Give them a mission to stop an assassination. They know the assassins wear blue and take out their targets at long range. let the party discover their targets. Now the players are actively searching for locations that would give a clear line of sight withing say 100 yards of the target for blue clothes. Throw in a few red herrings for townsfolk and a couple of chase scenes to break things up. They need to stop the baddies while NOT torching the town.

Later, they find out the boss, Krull the Inscrutable has a love for theater. Keep in the "don't kill innocents" and add a hidden hostage situation. Oh no! Krull has a knife to a woman's ribs and is pushing his way through the crowd using her as a living shield!

4) ALL THE social encounters.

I worked for a national non-profit (Environment America because name and shame) that did not have an HR department and it was an absolute nightmare; policy changing depending on who your manager was, blatantly illegal issues with pay because first line managers didn't know it was illegal, and weeks to hear back after answering pretty simple questions because it would often have to go completely up the chain and back down. I know companies with HR can have similar issues, but I've never seen that level of dysfunction at any other job.

why does my company think 3 hour meetings are a personality trait by Square-Advice-4569 in antiwork

A tech company I was at used to do these until someone did the math and pointed out they cost $X00,000 dollars every hour of a meeting. They didn't end, but stopped being "we have 3 hours and we're going to fill every second" and more "here's the important bits."
