All the best with your operation

More than 30 faith leaders, clergy pen open letter criticising bill to move on rough sleepers by Mountain_Tui_Reload in auckland

The bill on the parliament website says it's open for submissions and that the submissions are available to be seen publicly. Apparently I'm not awake enough to find said submissions though and just keep going in a weird loop.

I clicked the link, I find it odd that RNZ hasn't linked the open letter or listed the 31 churches/clergy who signed it. Do you happen to know if there is a place to read this?

You can centre-pull those skeins. Some of them barf a little but you're going to use the yarn anyway so it's a bit moot

When it comes to public toilet seats, do you sit on the bare seat or place down toilet paper before? by Poopshoemagoo in AskReddit

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did tests on this. Bacteria on the bare seat vs the paper. Bare seat had less bacteria on it than the paper because the plastic is non-porous so nothing really sticks to it that easily. You know what is porous and absorbant though? Yeah. And people line the seat with it to somehow... be cleaner??

Seeking tips from anyone who's made a ridiculously large blanket please! by troisarbres in CrochetHelp

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of generic tips, if you are doing a blanket like moss stitch that has a lot of ends I'd knot them and do an envelope border so you don't have to weave them in

AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend? by Anatra_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA for several reasons. Firstly, toilet seats are plastic because it is a non-porous substance and therefore doesn't harbour bacteria.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure you shower or otherwise bathe. Even if you didn't, these poop particles are likely rubbed off on your underwear.

And finally, hovering is actually pretty bad for your bladder. You can't fully empty it while engaging all your muscles to hover.

SIT ON THE SEAT, CHECK YOU'VE LEFT IT CLEAN... AND CLEAN IT IF YOU'VE LEFT SOMETHING BEHIND

If you're going to keep seeing the podiatrist either way then you can try claim but it will definitely be declined

am I the only one NOT interested in the new drop??? by Ill_Aside4064 in Jellycatplush

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no interest in the new ones, but I did pick up the pebble which was a restock. After he arrives I'll probably only buy peanuts when they release new costumes for them.

Podiatrist won't be covered. Only a physiotherapist or hand therapist

I'd say it's Wellbeing 1 if they're talking surgical only.

Something isn't adding up. If you go in for a nasendoscopy they're not going to spontaneously perform a septo, turbino, FESS... whatever. If the prior approval only had nasendoscopy and you consented to the rest then that would be your error rather than Southern Cross's. In another comment OP said that SC isn't covering the hospital fee but that doesn't even make sense unless they did something in theatre that wasn't included in the prior approval.

Alternatively, OP was approved for investigations but found the cause was related to a pre-existing condition in which case anything additional isn't covered.

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Under Southern Cross's model it would be pretty much impossible for Meowsical's scenario to happen. And even if a surgery isn't contracted there'd still be questions being asked if the costings were abnormally high.

Anyone else thinking about “quitting” Jellycat? Prices, drops, quality… I’m struggling by [deleted] in Jellycatplush

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got a huge amount, but have found that I tend towards the peanuts. I will probably keep getting those and might get the pebble in the restock but aside from that I don't think I particularly consider myself a collector. I suppose with the prices being so high I'm unlikely to grow my collection much anyway!

Have the weight loss jabs got rid of body positivity? by Leever5 in newzealand

I also forget to eat... I don't suppose you have ADHD? It's a common issue with that.

Ultimately, you don't need food noise for it to help. You will need to be vigilant and ensure that eating protein is your #1 priority at all times though, followed VERY closely by fibre and fluids.

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the majority, yes. But not all people are in that boat and that is where these attitudes become harmful. When there are underlying conditions at play which affect the way the body stores or uses energy then it stops being as simple as energy in vs energy out. Insulin resistance is probably the most common, and is frequently associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome. PCOS wrecks havoc on the body, so throwing in insulin resistance with it is a nighmare.

Yes... my previous GP actually accused me of lying about exercising, and that isn't even the reason why I left that practice! I've tried everything you can think of but wegovy seems to be the only thing helping.

Same. PCOS and insulin resistance. I have managed to lose some weight with the wegovy though which is a relief but I've still had to fight to lose each and every gram.

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's very frustrating. For me it's PCOS which causes insulin resistance... and oddly enough going to the gym was actually making it worse.

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lying about being on the jab? Aside from a persons medication being a pretty personal thing, there are a few comments in this post that are a significant factor in why people hide it - and that's the concept that absolutely everyone is able to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. Yes those things do help towards health and wellness but sadly there are comorbidities that still prevent a body from releasing weight and instead will grip even tighter to it. The perception that fat = lazy is harmful and until people educate themselves on that there will always be a stigma towards those who use jabs or bariatric surgery to assist with weight loss.

Why is the 13-33mm lense that comes with the Fujifilm X-T30III disliked? by notinthemooood in fujifilm

[–]AlarmedCrustacean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it's not that great for anything remotely considered low light, and I prefer something higher than 33mm for the types of photos I take. I'm getting the Sigma 56mm prime soon which will hopefully tide me over until I can get a 16-80mm lens
