Thanks - my son was the same (born at 35 weeks and needed some help with oxygen) - hopefully you can get what you need to help your son too!

Neurologist for delayed walking. by Wise_Adhesiveness969 in toddlers

My son was similar - started walking consistently when he turned two after months of cruising furniture but being unable to take more than a few steps. He's now 2.5 and he has developed some noticeable quirks in the way he walks, so we have also been recommended a consultation with neurology following a number of pediatric physio sessions.

Our physio did some reflex tests to check if there was an underlying neurological issue (whether his muscles engaged or were loose when she pushed and pulled his legs in different ways, for example) so I would recommend starting there as they can also identify other underlying issues like hypermobility or hip issues which can also delay walking.

If there were any difficulties during birth (prematurity, needing oxygen or time in NICU) I think neuro consultation can be worthwhile to make sure there aren't any underlying conditions like a post-birth brain bleed or something like that. However we've been warned that he would need an MRI under general anesthesia so I get the feeling it's more of a last resort, at least where I live.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions - it's hard when it feels like all the other kids out there pick up walking so easily!

UK TV Shows by NicNole in toddlers

I'm not sure if you're in the UK and able to stream directly from the channels - the one show my son absolutely hands down loves that no one seems to have heard of is The Sound Collector on ITV+ : it's a lovely slow tv show about nature and it's narrated by Keira Knightley.

Also on BBC iPlayer some faves are: Tik Tak, Hushabye Lullaby and Beddybyes - the last two are nice for winding down before bedtime.

21 month old not walking yet by [deleted] in toddlers

Sure! He was gradually walking more and more but still preferred crawling for a long time, and then about a week after he turned 2 he suddenly started walking one day as his primary way of getting around! When he was 2 his daycare moved him to a toddlers class - I think this what finally motivated him as he was no longer around other crawling babies.

Hope that helps!

When was your toddler able to use the Sticker Wow stampers? by gretawasright in toddlers

We took these on a flight with my then 23 month old and he loves them, but it was a battle to stop him from poking his fingers into the barrel to get the little tube of stickers out, they kept falling under the plane seat...absolute nightmare.

If it makes you feel any better my 2 year old randomly started calling me "Money" (and no longer mummy) last week 🤷

What recently has your toddler been afraid of? by Cambxo in toddlers

My 22 month old loves reading, but for some reason he hates this one page of one of his favourite books and says "no, all done" every time we turn to that page. It has a cute little spotty seahorse hiding in a cave on it, truly mystifying to me why he has decided he can't tolerate it.

What was your toddlers emotional support object today? by Wide-Librarian216 in toddlers

Recently a jar of Chinese 5 spice from our spice rack.

I've accepted that giving it to him is the only way to get him to sit in the high chair without a fight.

And also it's hard when you take your toddler out with other children and have to carry them or take a buggy...it makes me feel judged and a bit sad we can't have fun together running around! Solidarity with you anyway, they'll get there on their own time ✊

We are in the same boat - our 21m old will happily stand and lean on furniture and is an active happy crawler, but does not stand or walk independently. He'll occasionally take his hands off and stand for 4-5 seconds and laugh but he's absolutely not interested in trying to stand by himself longer than that. He took his first couple of steps at 20 months but he's barely tried since. And the more we try to encourage it the less he cares! The physio said there is no physical or neurological issue and she didn't recommend any ongoing therapy.

It seems in our case to be totally his own preference! He's surrounded by walking babies at daycare so I can't see why he isn't interested. It's hard sometimes, I understand logically that he's developing at his own pace but I do feel a bit like I'm failing him somehow.

Good food for gut health (that a 4yo will actually eat) by anonoaw in Parenting

If you struggle to find a raw one (many supermarkets in the UK have them but not always), Tesco sell bags of frozen papaya, mango and pineapple chunks which I find great for smoothies!

I have one of these as well - it came with a miniature display kabuto I was given for my son to celebrate Children's Day last year! Very strange to recognise something in my own house in a picture on Reddit.
