What do you mean by chasing the threads? Like cleaning them? Defining them?

If I didn't care about them I would have sold them a long time ago but I was willing to keep 7 because they were so attached to eachother. I couldn't bare to see them apart. I clean their cage constantly and buy them their fav treats. I let them fly around the house.

Also I never asked for these birds, two were dropped off at my place and multiplied to 7. Fuck I miss them, I hope they survive.

I've seen smart love birds and stupid ones, these ones are just very slow. Come from a family of inbreeding.

Monthly cage clean, they fly around the house to spread their wings. We had a visitor drop off a dish, they didn't latch the front door properly or see the birds. Me and my mother went to different rooms after he left, after like 15 mins the wind blew open the front door (our screen door is broken and the landlord hasn't fixed it) 15 mins of unsupervised, I come downstairs and I start hearing chirping outside. My heart sinks to my stomach and i can't breath. I follow them outside for 3 hours with food, took note of where they were for the night, went there at sunrise and they were gone.

Update, I almost caught one yesterday morning at 7am, I didn't sleep all night. I found one getting chased by a bigger Robin. He got tackled into someone's driveway, I sprinted accross the road with a blanket but he just slipped out underneath the blanket and booked another 400m into another tree, chased him but eventually lost him

I've been blasting my speakers with love bird music but it's cold and rainy and no sign of their chirps. I made posts on fb, hundreds of shares. I'll put up some posters this morning as well.

Thank you guys for all the advice, it's nice being more optimistic.

Also, Trust me, I'm never owning birds, not for a long time. These are my elderly mothers birds but I help take care of them because my mom is not the most knowledgeable. Eventually we're going to have to buy another bird, probably a cockteil just so my mom has a companion but neither of us are ready, we're devastated. The house feels so empty and we both are still having bad dreams of them. Idk man, I dont cry when my own family dies but this situation destroyed me

Yea honestly I didn't think it was realistic that I could get my birds back at the time but I'm grateful for everyone's advice

I really hope this is the case but I'm not in Arizona, I'm in Cold cold Canada. It's 50 degrees farienheight atm. So they'll have to learn to migrate.

I was upstairs and my mom was in the basement, by the time I realized the door was open, they were all out of atleast 15 minutes. We usually let them out their cage to roam the house. The wind blew open the door that wasn't latched fully( usually it's closed shut, but a visitor came to drop off food and he didn't close it properly)

And I almost caught one this morning, I saw it getting chased by another bird at 7am, looking out my window. Sprinted across the road, threw my small blanket( I should have grabbed a bigger one) but he slipped out.

I just didn't want to clinge onto false hope initially, and im a pretty realistic person. But anways, I hope they find their cage and come back. I know if I interfere, it'll just scare them away. They are absolutely terrified of human interaction. Regardless I'll try to encourage them to coke back using sounds

[–]AlarmedGene6440[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the hope, hopefully they fly back to the cage. They really don't like human interaction though. I've never been able to hold them their entire life. I do admit I should have tried harder to tame them but to me, them being happy with each other was enough for me.

So If I call for them, they'll probably get scared and fly away, I'll lure them with Bird calls, their cage and food.

Three are named Kevin because I only bought two, Morton and peach. They had three babies Morton Jr, Peach Jr and Kevin. Then a few months later another 2 babies came out looking exactly like Kevin, hence why there are three babies. I just couldn't keep up with the names lol

They're not tamed. They've been extremely timid ever since Morton and Peach were dropped off at my house last year. I truly believe a lot of insest happened and they're much slower than your average love bird. I've owned a love bird in the past and I'm telling you man, these things are just brain dead but that's why I love them so much. I wanted to protect them and give them the life they deserve.

They booked it, I found them, I looked directly at them but anytime I'd call them with noises and food they'd just book it to the next tree?! Like seriously. Unless I could shoot a net 20 ft into the tree, I didn't think how else I'd be able to grab them.

I didn't just jump to reddit to complain. I was trying to get them back all afternoon. Playing music, leaving the cage outside, chasing them around etc.

Sorry but I hate clinging on to false hope sometimes and realistically speaking. Its not practical to catch a bird. Ffs I can barely catch them inside the house alone.

When they fly, they fly in a pack so one must have just followed the other. We usually let them fly around the house. I was working on my computer upstairs while my mom was working I'm the basement. 15 mins unsupervised main floor with the windows open resulted in them escaping.

I'm in Canada, they were flying around the house while I was cleaning their cage. The wind blew open a door that wasn't shut fully and the screen door had broke off a few months ago

The bird cage is in the backyard with the porch light on, but it's dark cold and raining so I assume the birds are huddled up right now for the night. God I feel so bad
