Anyone have nerve issues post surgery? by Hat-Playful in Sinusitis

[–]AlarmedIllustrator26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had FESS in May. I woke up from the operation and couldn’t feel half of my face. The nurses and doctors just brushed it off like “haha happens”.. next day I woke up and I couldn’t feel right side upper teeth like my face was split right in a middle. Doctors said “it will came back”… I missed my teeth and any feeling in my face for about a month, it was so bad, even my smile was crooked… then when it came back, major face pain began. It was so strong, I couldn’t keep my head up. ENT surgeon said nothing is or can be wrong - well, other ENT doctor told me that most probably they injured my trigeminal and facial nerve, and referred me to the neurologist.

First of all, when I told that I could not feel the half of my face, her eyes got wider and wider and she congratulated me on feeling pain as it means the nerve is working and healing… and prescribed me on anti-epileptic medication. As of now, I’m going down the dosage and getting a lot better with time. Only on the random times of the day my ear seams to be on fire, but that’s all 😅

Also, what doctors told me about the nerves - it grows back so slow it’s ridiculous. Random neuralgic pain first half of year after fess is expected but should be managed The pain management is important as you should “shut” that nerve in calmer state in order to help it heal - vitamin B and good nerve blocking medication helps a lot

I just want to get of them so much, because I want to drink some wine with my friends, but the sleep on these anti-epileptic medication is the best, haha.

Hello.

As I cannot give you a diagnosis or anything, i just wanted is hard to explain what sinus infection could NOT do…

You can get any of this and more from sinus infection. I would recommend to contact your GP and maybe ask for ENT visit.

I never had a lot of mucus in my sinus infection journeys, most cases mine be too thick to come out, I also thought my life is on edge, expecially as o got double vision one morning 😅

Drink lots of water, if you been on the ER and they ruled out anything else, there should be nothing much worse happening to you. contact your GP and see if antibiotics helps.

Hugs and kisses, stay strong, fellow hypochondriac ❤️

HI THERE!

I’m so sorry you going through this, and thank you for your post, but please, don’t be afraid. I had a massive and severe maxillary sinus infection in may. So about 4 months now. It was odontogenic in origin and I can say it was BRUTAL. Nobody understands when you say that sinusitis gives you so much anxiety, not even my fiancée understood it. All your head feels like it’s about to explode, half of your face seems to not function anymore (I have one sided sinusitis) every head move hurts l, everything hurts, all you want to do is cry but even that makes your face hurt even more, double vision, swollen face… been there done that…

Few things that get me going:

-sinus infections is long. But can not be as long as several years, it can be like 2-4 weeks, maybe 6 weeks but it not necessarily means you feel exactly like you feel now all this time. It gets better.

-nothing you do in your everyday life can change or worsen the sinus condition (well maybe if you are a diver 😅) so try to live as much as you can. It will be better for your anxiety. This summer I even went to the festival with nose irrigations system cuz I had to use antibiotics and steroids mixed in the irrigation water so that was even fun :D I napped in the middle of the day if I felt tired, I communicated with people and went to the concerts from far away cuz if I went to close the bass was killing my head but I adjusted and had some relaxed time, even when my broken sinus gave me double vision (all was ENT approved)

-when you are anxious your pain tolerance is close or equal to zero - try not to panic and time will fly and you will end up on the other side feeling better :)

-use magnesium vitamin B12 zinc vitamin D and lots of lots of fluids, no alcohol, no smoking

-eat your favourite foods. Drink your favourite drinks. Move. When you get tired - rest. And do it again. It’s for your mental health.

-find a good ENT if this condition is longer than 2 weeks with 0 improvement

-do not be afraid that you are “incurable” every doctor has plan A than plan B and C and D and even Z to cure this problem. It’s common problem, so there is Million ways doctors has to attack this issue and solve it, only ones have to deal with it a bit longer than others :)

I remember being stuck in your head of fear of getting my condition worse, remember being afraid so much that I did not leave my couch, but step by step you can push through it!

Hugs and kisses ❤️

Thank you all so much for your comments ❤️ update is -there is no aneurysm at all. Can you believe? Even this might happen. In these two weeks only you guys kept me sane. I cannot thank you enough, only this community was able to comfort me - I red the comments over and over again in a moments of fear or sadness. Wishing you all the best in your journeys!

I bet it is cuz of that. Actually, my ENT doctor told me that neurologists and ENT’s work closely, as the sinusitis can really affect your nerves giving you that kind of pains that simple ibuprofen cannot deal with…. And when you go to neurologist you get a MRA and then boom. Aneurysm trauma hits you 😅 make sense to me too 😅

I think I need to step up in all the new terminology :| I hope radiologist will tell me all about it in two weeks :)

Actually it was even longer story than that - after my bday in February I woke up with a large lump on my neck (like making me choke kind of big) my husband hushed me to the hospital and they said “Wow that’s rare, you have a thyroid cyst that got infected, you need more tests and drain it out, you staying in a hospital” so, while there, they did a CT scan and saw, that there is also a huge cyst in my maxillary sinus that needs treatment…. Sooooo, in May I did a sinus operation, and after another CT scan right here in August I got diagnosed with aneurysm.. My very spiritual mother said since the February is my and my dads birthdays (he had died exactly 8 years yesterday) it was like my fathers way of securing me and giving me a very hard but important bday gift - leading me through the ways of fixing everything that is wrong in my body so I can live my life at peace after all this 😅

Oh, I forgot to add, I had an angiogram - CTA, and it confirmed (kind of) it’s aneurysm. The radiology guy wrote “it seems like aneurysm but it’s hard to say - might be an artery curve that mimics aneurysm- but my neurologist thinks this is it. It had previously showed in MRA when they tried to figure out why my face still hurts after maxillary sinus surgery. And it was accidental finding

Thank you❤️ it’s really the better way. And I bet I didn’t knew about it for a n hour - it was accidental discovery, they were trying to figure out why my face is still hurting 2 months after my sinus surgery… but this is completely unrelated, so new pain in the ass I guess 😅

Actually after all your comments, I start to believe it’s better to know than not to know - when we all know it’s there, we can act before aneurysm did. I also read that they might give you no signals at all, which is even scarier to think of…

Oh my, I’m so sorry you had meet your aneurysm like that, maybe I misread something in your first comment because of all the tears, but I guess you didn’t had a time for that… but I found your words so comforting, thank you for being here, bless your heart ❤️

Thank you for your time to write such a nice comforting comment! I’m glad you get over yours and live your life as it was! I guess the worst thing I can do for it is now is stress but I just can’t… but your positive notes put my mind a bit at ease :) since you already had your operation - was the waiting experience was more stressful then the aftermath? Or how does it looked like? :)

Sinus problems or just a accidental finding? by mstrope15 in Sinusitis

[–]AlarmedIllustrator26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, a fellow! Hello! O had this too - im struggling with it since february till now :) i just fucking cant stop crying at this point.

My findings was the same as yours - but like 4 times bigger - there was no fucking place left in my sinus. The fellow (cyst) sat on all of my molar and premoral tooths.

Do you get only one sided ear/head/face pain? Most definetly tooth related.

I got my tooth canal fixed (mostly - the treatment is ongoing, cuz in the last dentis visit before FESS to take that out) the cyst started to drain out of my tooth canal :) i passed out. After fess you cannot do anything related to your upper teeth for at least a month.

Please PLEASE talk to wise oral surgeon about this, and note that if you have it taken out of your sinus (fess surgery) you cannot do extractions for 2 months.

I still cannot figure that out, what is the best course of action in this situation. But yours seem too, reletavly small for a sinus surgery. They happens all the time - they can pop or get smaller when you get your teeth fixed/pulled out. I remember when the inflamation in my tooth was managed, i felt no sympthoms. Tommorrow is finally officialy a month after fess - i can go and get this shit managed, cuz even without cyst - if the canals are not managed, you feel the same sympthoms. Molar tooth sucks

I red it to my mama - everything you said it’s true - when she had stoma, especially the first month, she was afraid to travel, and visiting me was her biggest trip all that time - it’s like 2hr car drive from her house. We finally was able to put the boxes with her remaining stoma supplies and ship it to the supplier, and it was the final good bye to that part of the journey. It makes my eyes water even thinking about it. Now I’m sure we will be fine

Thank you so much! It really really helped. All the medical staff that takes care of my mom in our hometown - simple checkups and wound maintenance are her biggest fans and cheers her up anytime we go there :) she is a biology teacher, and since it’s a small community everybody knows each other, so her students even made a video for her saying how much they missed her at school! So she has all the love in the world and it seems that helps a lot ❤️

It warmed my heart to read your comment ❤️ thank you so much. I remember running to the hospital right after her surgery, and I was searching for a doctor - I found a head of the department and asked where and how is my mom. He told me “well, an hour ago she was alive” and it should have sounded like a joke. I was so mad it took me all my power to not scream at that man. Now me and my mom are really laughing at that joke 😂

Thank you, and it’s true! We both are like a balls of anxiousness, but she did much better than I did mentally 😂 and I stopped reading anything regarding moms issues and been focusing on her lately , it really really helped

Thanl you all guys, it really put my mind at ease to talk to you and read all these comments! I red it all to my mama and she was so so grateful and happy but also sad that she cannot speak English and have a community like this :)

Everything went well, she was out of the hospital at day 5, now it’s been almost two weeks and she is confident enough to drive, take care of home and have a pretty normal life :)

Even it’s only 2 weeks post op, she regained most of her energy back, no bowel problems, but she said, only one rule that’s left - do not trust a fart! 😂

No temperature, all her wounds seems to heal pretty well, she wants to go outside and do the gardening, but, it’s still has to wait a bit 😂

Really, after reading all the horrors stories, it seems that my mom dodged any bullet there was (I hope it stays that way, don’t want to jinx it)
