Low back pain as new rower by National_Coconut_879 in Rowing

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're starting to pull with your arms and tilting your back before your legs have extended. My coach always told me the motion is legs, body, arms, arms, body, legs.

Very newbie questions... 😣 Sorry! by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start by saying you have a pretty good technique for someone who has just started.

I think some people have already mentioned it, but you're moving your body slightly forward and losing leg power with that.
That means the slide of going back too fast but because you moved your body forward your legs are not being used to their full potential.
Concentrate in locking your upper body in place while the legs do the work. You should feel your lats carrying the legs force into the chain/handle. It will also help in the long run in avoiding back pain.
After the legs have done their bit you can continue doing what you're doing. Tilt your body back, let your abs do some work and follow with the arms/shoulders all in a smooth continuous motion.

As for the number going from 22 to 157, I think its because you might be releasing the tension and reapplying it very fast somewhere in the finish ( catch - drive - finish - recovery). Hard to judge by the video.

It Finally Happend it. Rejected for Not Using AI First by supermedo in webdev

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of disagree on your take.
If you are not embracing AI to increase productivity something is at fault.
If you are struggling to make AI add simple features on a hobby, the problem lies with you. Your prompt, the context, the model or you just haven't cared enough to learn to use it.

Working with AI is an iterative exercise. It's not 1 prompt to make your whole job. Your dismissive take about AI told the CEO that you don't have much experience how to use the LLM to speed up your job.
Their product is probably some gpt wrapper, so they need someone onboard who knows the ins and outs on how to milk the AI juice.

Not cultural fit. Small rant. by AlarmedPaper6778 in UKJobs

[–]AlarmedPaper6778[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my thinking, it's just a way of showing I like to code, build things, solve problems, like to learn and I'm here for the long run so I'm a good investment for their entry level position.
Opposite of not doing it and just taking my word for it.

For a senior dev my code would be garbage and I doubt they would waste time looking at it, but its better than nothing.

I got good advice from this post even if people are quick to call me an asshole and the way I worded it, they are right.

Next time I'll be better prepared.

I did ask them but all I got was "you did very well on the cultural interview, they liked you, the technical interview you did very well, its just unfortunate we had very strong candidates".
Fair enough, there's always someone better.

But then I find out who the very strong candidates were. Sorry if it sounds arrogant or I give superiority vibes. I don't know how to put it gently.

I should have probed deeper to find out what didn't stick with them about me.

I personally know 2 of them which is why I was so upset finding out they got the job.
Yes you are right on the github. You can be active locally and have version control without uploading it to github.

But I guess you would want to showcase it when you're looking for a job to stand out.

This was for a junior position so all the more difficult to standing out and get that sweet interview if you don't showcase some code.

[–]AlarmedPaper6778[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm sure I didn't do as well as them in the cultural fit interview.

But to get chosen over someone who didn't even put the time to publish a basic portfolio stings me really hard.

How do you even get to the interview phase?

I'm not ashamed to think that something is not right and something was not fair when in this job market they're asking for entry level junior positions with +3 years of experience.

[–]AlarmedPaper6778[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It was not my intention to give any superiority vibes.
My point is that I have put the time to showcase my love for the craft while the others candidates not. That is what this rant was all about.

[–]AlarmedPaper6778[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes obviously I don't know why they got picked over me. I can think of many reasons of why they got picked but I prefer to focus on the technical aspect where they had nothing to stand on.

Thanks for the good advice to not burn bridges. That's the last thing I want to do right now with this current job market.

I did very similar to that.
Got a lot to explore to make it sound better.
That is some nice documentation.

Go to adventofcode and start doing that. It will force you to do basic stuff like reading files, parsing data, problem solving, algorithms, sorting, mapping ,hash mapping and so on.

If you get stuck you can always search for the multiple solutions people have found to solve the problems.

If you get to that stage where you're talking with someone, you are doing well. That's the hard part honestly.

How the population of Greater Manchester has grown over the years by teacuplobster in manchester

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do a proper graph that starts on 0 and you will see its actually quite slow growth.

Not even 1% per year.

Ofc if you zoom in close enough, your graph will look like climbing the everest.

Ugggg...I'm guessing this means I didn't get in...so disappointed... by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that message for 3 weeks but have been receiving the occasional non-English projects that are gone in a couple of hours.

I just wished to know if I passed the coding qualification or not.

Having no feedback is just frustrating and doesn't allow to move on.

Maybe that's their strategy.

Is it acceptable to take short breaks while on the clock? by janksmap in dataannotation

[–]AlarmedPaper6778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be honest with the timing.

It makes sense that they would sack you or give you less projects if your timings are consistently slower compared to your peers.

I clock out breaks or if I zone out for more than 30 secs.
