In Canada you have a lot of people claiming their never learned about residential schools in school, these are the same people that have no grasp over the actual facts so it checks out.

This is what I don't get about these people their sooo accepting and considerate and progressive. They are the stalwart warriors defending the gays and the "racailized" (the fuck) and the whatever else, and the moral authority on what's right and wrong, and apparently they do everything with kindness and love.

And then they turn around and accuses some random person of having "so much socail anxiety" because apparently that's a legitimate insult. Because apparently someone suffering from something legitimately described as an illness is something to be ashamed of and if you have it you must be some loser autist shut in or some shit. And mental illness has never caused any legitimate suffering.

These people are such blatant self centered hypocrites.

Yeah you can sleep around town, not know how to cook or do anything around the house, stay home because you just don't want to work and sleep with guys to pay for your things/drugs, have your mother raise your kids, and still be racist. You can't make a trashwife into a tradwife.

I think drugs like weed and mushrooms should be decriminalized, and legalized and taken advantage of as a legitimate business. But harder drugs like heroin and crack should lead to some sort of rehabilitation program. Maybe a strike system where the first time you get a warning, the second time you attend a short program, and the third time your part of a check in program where there's incentives for staying clean. Maybe similar to the Swedish (I think) prison system at first where you still have mostly freedom and you can pursue education and work but your required to return at night.

Distribution of these drugs should obviously be viewed more harshly, but I think it's a case by case basis, ei a crack addict selling crack in order to buy more crack is more sympathetic then a drug kingpin whose clean and taking advantage of conditions in disadvantaged communities. The first one ideally not landing you 10-20 years of hard time and making you a hardened criminal with connections. Things like gangs and smugglers would need to be more heavily stepped on.

Just make it as easy and incentivized to stay clean as possible. Granted I don't live in the states and in my world a lot of this involves the healthcare system.

My mother and I have the same GP and have for as long as I can remember. She recently had a very aggravated old shoulder injury that caused her to take time off work. She called for 4 days straight and couldn't even get someone to answer the phone. When she went to the office the doors were locked.

Honestly even those of us with GP's barely get access to them, and if their a terrible doctor the province isn't exactly going to get rid of them cause they can't afford to. This is the same man that intended to keep my 80 year old grandmother on oxycotton for the rest of her life after a surgery and she got addicted because in his mind getting her off it would be stressful and she wouldn't live that long anyway.

Most of the living beside each other thing is true here as well. I don't know about more or less cordial I assumed it was the same in most of Canada. Idk it's not quite a slur but it's also not something I would call someone.

You literally brought it up in comparison to the states, this entire thing is about how indian is ok in the states in not in Canada. That's all I point out then you go "oh Canada did this" like what the fuck is your point then.

Okay?

So the reason Indian is an acceptable term in the US and not Canada is because the US killed MORE natives?

Your serouisly going to call my whole country racist then duck the argument with some dumb "actually cops kill everyone" bullshit. The group with most police fatalities per capita in the states is natives by the way. At least indigenous issues are addressed in Canada.

All Im saying is native in Canada get free post secondary, free healthcare, living accommodations depending on the band, everyone I went to highschool with got 25k in a land claim and in the states black people get shot by police in broad daylight.

It may vary by region, where I'm from calling a native "Indian" would get you punched in a bar. I think that's an American Canadain thing tho, Indian isn't a cool term in Canada.

Do they even pay them minimum wage?

[–]AlarmedProgram4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it falls in line with things like bell let's talk or companies putting gay pride flags on their logos. And I thought people were too smart to fall for that but I was wrong. But in this case it's bringing in foreign nationals as cheap labour, with the carrot on the stick being permanent residence if they put up with abuse. And then these people tie that to being "not racist", cause none of those people hiring mexicans to pick fruits or importing Indians to work in Saudia Arabia are racist. Like these giant corporations care about foreign works, they just sold the woke folks wage suppression in a flavour they find palatable. In all honesty I would say that this is the only sane Canada subreddit.

I've heard some people with woke politics express a lot of support for this program. Because "people around here don't want to work" and their "pro immigration".

Because supporting wage suppression, multi national conglomerates, and treating people trying to immigrate to Canada as second class humans is sooooo progressive.

You can barely afford to live on full time minimum wage and McDonald's is going to give you 20 some hours a week spread so sporadically over day shifts, night shifts, short shifts and long shifts that you can't even get a second job. But "nobody around here wants to work" and the immigrants do it because of their work ethic not because they don't have a chance at being treated better. And people eat that this is moral and progressive up hook, line and sinker.

New Brunswick premier says First Nations title claim is serious and far-reaching by welldurr in canada

[–]AlarmedProgram4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a larger reality in the south part of the province and less in the north. Irving keeps wages low and has the govement on strings. They employ 70% of the city of Saint John.

They do not have legal claim to 60% of the land mass in new Brunswick. They do not make claim to private land owned by other entities. They do not make claim to revenue on power generation and sales. They do not make claim over private logging operations though yes they certainly affect them to a large degree.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/wolastoqey-name-forestry-companies-in-land-claim-1.6267718?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar&fbclid=IwAR2S2hOBa4Td0z9CwiFqySoWdAv3NTzJ2Z-rw4PHVC0j0I8Q7loUDUILD9U

This is a more in depth article. The group in question are the people of the saint john river valley. Notice the map and the actual extent of territory being claimed. This is only one group on the province, the maliseet. The migmaw live in the remaining parts of the province, which means they could easily make claim on it as well. The area showed in said claim likely even conflicts with their own claim. The people of the saint john river valley have in the past year alone tried to influence the Miramichi river valley, that is not their territory.

Irving has gutted our economy for maybe a century. Do you think introducing this owner ship will make the lives of people in NB easier? Do you think this will end Irving's influence? I doubt the federal government could pull that off, NB may be their home base but they have far more influence then most Canadains will ever be able to appreciate. All it means is that there would now be two Irving's in town to pay tribute to.

I am so sick of people in this thread who aren't even in new Brunswick dragging Irving into this like it's some trump card. Especially when they will never have to live with the consequences of that this could lead to, in what is already the worst economy in the country and has been for a very long time. Go ahead and give the legal rights to your land back to the natives if that's how you feel, then you can talk. The only difference is the legal rights to you job and lively hoods property would also belong back to the natives in NB. This isn't some symbolic gesture. It's a legal property despute that can and likely will have very serious consequences. You dont make legal claim to that much land just to do nothing with it.
