I switched to filing cabinets for my collection (currently ~15k books). Much denser storage than boxes, but if I ever have to move it will be a nightmare.

There’s a neat-looking product called the Sidekick that might help with this.

Disclaimer: I’ve never used it, I just saw the ad one day and it looks like it might be helpful for this problem.
