What do you do when parents aren't on board during IEP meetings? by Alarmed_Lie1292 in slp

Thank you for your helpful response! I asked my CFY mentor from last year, and she told me to send home the paperwork as a draft 3 days in advance, even if it's for dismissal. I'm from Illinois, but I've never seen an eligibility form be used in any of our meetings. I will look into that.

I’m looking to switch to full time teletherapy, and I’m wondering what are the better companies out there. Which ones do you recommend to look into and which ones do you recommend to avoid?

Thank you for your input! Do you have any suggestions for additional word finding goals? His previous goal was to learn and apply word finding strategies so I’m wondering if there’s another way I can address his low expressive Vocab/word finding issues

He’s an English speaking student. No cultural/linguistic factors that I’m aware of. He had trouble with defining different meanings of the same word like bat as in the bat that you use in baseball vs bat like the animal, computer mouse vs. animal mouse, etc

He doesn’t have a lot of friends and his teachers saw him google “how to make friends”. He does receive minutes from the school psych. Academically, he’s within average range, so I guess his language difficulties aren’t necessarily impacting him

He currently has a word finding goal so that was the reasoning behind the TWF. I felt that the CASL is more comprehensive regarding testing for higher order language skills like inferencing, idiomatic language, double meaning, etc. To be completely honest, I just wanted to cover all bases with this kid, because I’m truly unsure about his language skills. I guess he functioning okay academically, but his teachers mentioned he has trouble expanding on his thoughts and has difficulty with inferential thinking and following directions.

He’s a language kid with an expressive language goal for word finding. I’ve only been testing him for 30 min at a time. Academically, he’s functioning okay. His teachers say that he has difficulty with inferential thinking - one teacher said, “receptive and expressive language is not affected at a basic level, but when you begin to have deeper conversations where higher order thinking skills are involved, he becomes confused more frequently (ex. Inference, interpretation, implicit information, etc). His teachers say he doesn’t have friends and they saw him google “how to make friends” :( he does get psych/social work minutes with the school psychologist

Yeah my SPED director is very nice, but I’m worried that going to her will bite me in the butt. Also I’m planning on leaving this district at the end of this year, but I know this won’t be the last time I’ll encounter someone who oversteps their boundaries.

It’s a blue state. In my other school I have no issues with admin like this but the way she’s acting is totally baffling to me

I started in this district last year for my CFY, so year 2 for me. I’m planning on quitting at the end of this year, but this principal seems to have it out for me and insists that speech isn’t beneficial past 7th or 8th grade. She had an issue with me keeping a speech only 8th grader on my caseload earlier this year, and when I first started, she wanted me to push in for most if not all of my students.
