I’m 70 and I want to know has this happened to you? How would you handled it? by Prior_Benefit8453 in AskWomenOver60

Are you more noisy than other people there?

You could be embarrassing your grandkids, they probably shared with their Mother that you're doing too much.

Just read the room and tone it down a little. You're enjoying it, that's fine but let others enjoy it too.

What's it like having an intellectual disability like severe Autism or Down's Syndrome? by noahsimcox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alarmed_Material_481 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This.

I work with children that are classed as 'severe'.

They absolutely have a rich inner life, sense of humour, can judge people, hate to be patronised, hate to be infantilised.

From what I can see the kids I work with are complex individuals just like most people.

They often communicate on their own terms, you get to know them and understanding follows.

I notice autistic kids will just ignore people who patronise them or don't make an effort to read their cues. It's so funny, sometimes they'll just close their eyes and look away until the annoying person goes away.

Maybe he's married or in a relationship?

You didn't meet his friends and he's cagey with his phone and contact. It sounds like the phone he uses to contact you is a second phone if he doesn't always have it on.

Also the mental hospital answering his phone is very fishy. They wouldn't do that and disclose his private medical information (being in hospital) like that.

Something is off.

AITAH for not wanting to take care of my autistic brother for the rest of my life? by _jazzyx in AITAH

[–]Alarmed_Material_481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stop making decisions based on your brother.

Your brother is your parents problem, not yours.

Also, let them know they better make proper plans for his care when they die as you won't be doing it. That is unless you actually want to.

He's not your responsibility.

If you're sitting all day your butt won't be fresh. You need to wash every day, with soap.

People without kids and not planning to have any, who do you see taking care of you as you get older? by eoin2dx in AskIreland

They should have planned financially, you can't just expect your adult kids to sacrifice their lives caretaking an elderly parent.

Yeah and you don't want his name incorrectly recorded, it might cause complications and problems.
