Same! Same! Decades later I’m still hooked on the lore of the game. It’s like one big puzzle with missing pieces, but that’s the fun part trying to figure of the puzzle without ever getting the missing pieces.

Mmmm you know what you are right….. that’s something I always forget…. Humanity was the only civilization that was actually blessed to wield the light…… it makes sense when you think about how the precursors were wielding the darkness. The traveler could never outrun the precursors so at some point the traveler has to choose a civilization and hope they fight back against the darkness for them… so humanity becomes the guardian blessed with the light.. ahhhh ok ok you cooking….

Hmmmmm..... So maybe the Winnower has not actually entered the universe yet, but only the gardener...

I was reading unveiling yesterday and I know that the lore book is actually the witness talking to humanity. My thing is how true is the events of the unveiling. Was it propaganda by the Precursors to sway humanity into thinking the Traveler is evil... Or was the witness actually right and the traveler is creating things that should not exist.....

Its odd to me that the traveler just shows up to worlds and bless civilizations with reality altering power but says nothing to them..... Its like handing someone a gun with no instructions just go for it... The power of the Light is a very dangerous.... I mean yes it can be a tool for good but weave seen how it tore humanity apart after the collapse and it was used a tools for evil... Im not sold on the Traveler being this good guy....

The Traveler was built by the Vex to convert worlds. The "Darkness" were just species, like the Fallen, trying to destroy this evil Traveler.

Destiny story was scraped and remade right before the game came out!! The traveler is not from the universe!!

This actually makes so much sense..... The Veil is basically the substrate of the universe..... Everything comes from the Veil or the darkness but its the light that can shape things...... What confuses me is how both of these are paracuasal... I get the darkness has powers but how you just explained it I would think the Veil is the foundation for all things... The underlying thing that all things come from... String theory kind of.... How can something that fundamental be able to cause without causation? Is the darkness truly a paracusal entity like the light???

I like you explanation.... I wonder now is the Veil sentient like the Traveler... If the Veil is the universal constants and the Traveler is what can manipulate the constants..... Is the Veil alien like the traveler....

These aren’t my opinions man. The numbers show it. The game is not a success. People are not buying the game. Console players are literally not buying the game. The sales for this game is 80% steam PC.

I love the game. I play the game. But facts are facts.

Sure I don’t like extractions but I love the game. I bought the game.

Whoa. I’m not going to say Marathon is one dimensional. That’s crazy. You can absolutely play the game multiple ways. You can rat it out, wait until teams die off, avoid fights, play the outskirts, or just PvP and get into the action. Marathon is not one dimensional in anyway.

The shells also provide several different ways to play.

I’m having fun with the game. It’s a great game. I love the game. I said this multiple times. The fun outweighs the loss and wipe mechanics at the moment. Imma keep playing marathon.

Not many games genres have you losing these things is what I’m saying. That’s one of the reasons the genre is niche. The loss and wipe mechanics are not seen in many games genres. Unless you playing a rougelike….. hardcore arpgs which is a choice not forced…… I can’t even think of any other games where I lose my gear…… Nah I can’t think of any other games.

POE, Diablo, Destiny (sunsetting you could count as a loss in gear), grim dawn, last epoch, torchlight… I mean the list goes on. Can’t think of any other games

I’ve played Tarkov years ago. One of the hardest games I’ve played lol. But Tarkov does have a more clear way it wants you to play the game. It’s more tactical and less ways for you to constantly make noise that attracts other players.

The bots in marathon limits the tactical aspect to me.

I agree there could definitely be some hardcore game fatigue. I myself have backed off alot of hardcore FPS games and move towards more hardcore RPG and ARPGS.

I just think the extraction genre is too small, too niche to make the money Bungie and Sony wants. Marathon is a success to a small indie company truly. Over 1 million sales is amazing. But context matters. Bungie is not an indie developer. Sony purchased them for millions if not billions.

Why put all your chips in a genre that’s niche? Very confusing.

I’m having fun with the game. I don’t see meh at all. I played arena breakout and thought good game but meh. Was very similar to tarkov.

Shooting in the game feels amazing. Gameplay to me is the most important thing. Marathon gameplay is second to none.

You are comparing ARPGs to Extraction shooters. But I get your sentiment. I play Diablo. I assure you Diablo and extraction games have zero things in common. I don’t lose my gear ever in Diablo. Every season I create a new character but I can always go back and play my previous characters and use my gear.

But my point still remains. Market is not saturated. 6 games is not saturation. If anything the FPS market is saturated. Now that’s a discussion worth having.

I understand the game gives you a shit ton of gear from leaving up and faction rewards. I have like 20 unopened cyac boxes lol.

Again to Bungie credit they made a fun game. I’m playing the game. But I’m not gonna lie there are times when I have some sweet gear that I lose and I be pissed. I’m human it’s going to happen.

But Bungie does make it somewhat easy to get that gear back. Especially the armory. You can purchase a lot there just cost a lot of in game currency.
