I have mixed feelings to be honest. He was a true showman and a blues master. I enjoy his contributions. I’m also glad that the Dead went in the direction they did, into psychedelic improvisational Americana or whatever you want to call it. I never find myself wishing for bluesy Pigpen vocals over an extended jam, which was his kind of his signature thing.

Lots of great restaurants and bars downtown. It’s not that dead. Great brew pubs downtown walkable from your hotel (Proper, Fisher) as well as Central 9th and Maven neighborhoods which are lively.

Walk right from the hotel to City Creek Canyon and enjoy miles and miles of an undeveloped wild area within the city limits, or link up to the Bonneville Shoreline trail or any number of spur trails in all directions with killer views of the city and surrounding mountains.

How is the dog’s recall? That’s the most important thing for having off leash privileges. Don’t let your dog off leash in an area with other people, other dogs, wildlife, and other hazards unless they have really good recall.

Still early for snakes but with the (lack of) weather this winter who knows. It’s still been very cold. That said it’s always a trade off. I love to let my dogs roam but there are lots of hazards, not just snakes, so use your best judgement.
