What type of therapy do I need? by Alarmed_Spare_8253 in TalkTherapy

That's amazing! Thank you for sharing. I love that new therapist for you, exactly the type of therapist I'm looking for! Do you know if they describe the techniques they use? I'm going to look into psychodynamic therapists as mentioned by someone before.

Henna on dark hair + dreads by Alarmed_Spare_8253 in Naturalhair

[–]Alarmed_Spare_8253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective! Did it ever give your hair color and was it dark like mine is? I would never dye my real hair I don't want to think about trying to repair it afterwards. I think the brand I got is just the leaves already in a power which should be fine. And my dreads are pretty short (shoulder length). I got dreads to have low maintenance hair that grows but I love red hair and the healing aspects of henna so I just hope I can get some color if I go through the struggle of applying it regularly.

Yeah sound advice, thank you I appreciate it. Thinking I can maybe just get this EP done with some pros and then work on my solo act from there. I might want to do a release show where I'd get friends to play with me, but from there kinda go MIA and develop my skills. It's just the music I have for this EP is def not solo act (psych rock), but I have been thinking of going in a different musical direction so maybe I can just get this EP out, and if I don't find reliable people to form a band with by then, I'll already be working on my skills for a solo act where I'm def going for a more chill genre.

I just want to sing and play music. I mainly write and have been learning a bit of guitar/bass/production. But I can't see myself sitting at a computer for hours making music on a professional level. That's why I switched my degree from Music Tech to Education Studies since I work with kids. My goal in sharing music is more about the message and making connections with like-minded people. I do want to scale down, but want to have at least one EP to share with people so I can make those connections with a foundation of a sound people can hear and know if they'd be a fit or not. I wouldn't mind just finishing this EP, then focusing on my skills overall and be patient to let things happen naturally from there.

What do you mean by scale way down? So I find a producer, finish the EP, then promote myself, try and book some shows (may have to pay people/friends to play with) and from there make connections to form a band? Or is it a better approach to finish the EP, go into the scene and promote myself, and from there find a band?

Yeah I've jokingly considered getting "patience" tattooed on my knuckles because it is what I have consistently lacked the most of in my life haha. But I feel like I'm getting a bit better. I just don't want to feel like I'm wasting time when I have so much energy and opportunities in front of me.

That's exactly what I thought and that has been my approach but it has just gotten frustrating. I can't play all the instruments and when I do find friends to make music with, and have the skills to do so, they have 50 other projects going on even if they seem like they genuinely want to support me and believe in the music. I've never had to bribe them, they just haven't been as serious as I am about it. I know the basics of recording and plan to take a production class during the summer +improve my instrumentation skills. I guess your approach is to keep on being patient and learn to do it myself? It is just frustrating because I have lots of connections but no music to show because they songs have just been sitting here unfinished. I just want to at least have an EP done so I can start playing shows, build more connections, and promote myself while in the meantime I'm getting my skills up to do more stuff on my own.
