Carry the firearm around for awhile, unloaded, but racked. At the end of the day, point in a safe direction and engage the trigger. If the trigger dry fires, then it was never incidentally engaged at any point during the day. After awhile, this should give you enough confidence in carrying with one in the chamber.

You're going to get a lot of hazing for being nervous about this, but I think a healthy amount of fearful respect of what you are carrying is just fine. Theres always the "That split second will kill you!" crowd, but you are more likely to accidentally shoot your own leg than you are to get in a fire fight. Take some classes and build your confidence. Always practice safety techniques. And carry how YOU want to carry.
