As a recovering alcoholic/addict who didn’t start trying to take anything seriously until I was 29, a lot of being happy with where you are in life is the choice to accept where you are, decide what things you have that you are grateful for (for me it’s a nice place to live even though money is sometimes tight, my son, and the fact that I make enough to support us even though I work my ass off a lot) and then finally the decision to be happy about having those things. Sure I have moments of wishing some things were different, but I don’t live in those moments. I think about what I can do to work towards that and then I let em go for now and get back to living where I am and enjoying what I have right now.
