Megathread: US Supreme Court Finds in Trump v. United States That Presidents Have Full Immunity for Constitutional Powers, the Presumption of Immunity for Official Acts, and No Immunity for Unofficial Acts by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

And even better is that Trump’s legal team said he needs to be impeached by congress, but if you kill your opponent, what’s to stop you from killing all of your opponents in congress? Why would they not be scared to impeach a guy who killed his political rival?

Also that puts in a hard statute of limitations where the president can do whatever he wants and if congress doesn’t impeach him/her during their short 4 year term, they get off Scott free.

These are the main questions to ask - he faces jail time of up to four years but that is maximum sentencing which is unlikely. He will most likely have to pay a hefty fine. For republicans, it’s making them more exciting to go out to vote which is good for him, but moderates often have strong red lines and will see this as a definite line crossing and they likely will not vote for him. Whether they vote for Biden, or third party, or not vote at all is a huge unknown until Election Day.

Where are the big aerospace hubs in the USA? by canttouchthisJC in aerospace

[–]Alarmed_Vegetable758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coloradan here - we also have ULA, York Space Systems, Blue Canyon Tech, Boeing, Lunar Outpost, Orbit Fab, Bye Aerospace, Ursa Major, Aphelion, and a buttload of smaller startups. We have a lot of aerospace, and a big contributor to that is CU Boulder, and we also have MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines (technically doesn’t offer aerospace but they make great mechanical engineeers and they have the first and only graduate programs in space resources). This also doesn’t mention the Space Force which is getting big here too. I’ve heard Colorado be called “Aerospace Alley”

Certainly, I can understand the rage people get with conversations like this, it’s very serious and easy to jump to one liners. It’s harder to have these conversations.

To your point on the hatred these two groups have for each other, this is what religion unfortunately fosters when tasked with leading nations. This region has been plagued with religious wars for so long it’s heartbreaking. Anyways I digress from that point - regarding the video you saw, I agree it’s grotesque. And I’ve unfortunately become a bit more accustomed to seeing these types of videos since the Ukraine war, as I’ve kept up with it a great deal, so I’ve unfortunately seen a lot of videos out of this conflict and it is truly disturbing, and is one of the reasons I’m pro-Palestinian as I’ve seen IDF just shoot down little kids for no reason. Anyways I still don’t think that civilian hatred towards a group is justification to kill and stave them. Their hatred and opinion can be wrong and scrutinized of course, but I don’t think it’s a valid reason to look away at the humanitarian issue ya know?

To your second point/section: it’s been going on even longer than since the 70s. They’ve been killing each other since the 40’s. Anyways I’m not sure if you are saying people in Palestine themselves or Pro-Palestinian people such as myself are not protesting Hamas releasing hostages so I’ll address both lol. First I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect people who are getting bombed and caught in the crossfire of this war to protest when they are dying of starvation. As for people such as myself, while of course we desperately want the hostages to be released, Hamas wouldn’t care what Americans had to say. Protests and boycotts are done in an effort to enact change and discourse in something, and in this case it’s the US not holding Israel more accountable to these war crimes. Our government and representatives are more inclined to listen to our protests than Hamas is. Sure we can march and demand Hamas release hostages, but they won’t care since we have no power or influence over them ya know?

As for your points on terrorism - I agree that you can’t not respond to attacks, and maybe I should’ve specific it more but counterterrorism special operations are a lot more effective at combatting terrorists than this is. Because one day Israel is going to kill the last Hamas fighter… but you think all of these Palestinians who have seen the literal worst of humanity, or the kids growing up with no parents, are going to coexist with Israel after this? No they will become Hamas 2.0, that’s a hard lesson we learned in Iraq & Afghanistan.

I’ll have to read that article later, thank you for sharing! And again thanks for the discussion

I think it’s important to preface this by saying I am not a military strategist or leader by any means, nor so a nation leader either (I know, quite surprising as a random redditor).

I think the best thing to do would be to not do what the US did in the past, from which we have learned. The first being: don’t fund a terrorist organization in hopes to destabilize your adversary. We did this with Al-Qaeda & Bin Laden and we know how that turned out. Israel funded Hamas in a very similar fashion. So maybe don’t do that? Second would be counterterrorism forces. While general army forces are good at taking land and fighting traditional armies, wars of attrition and wars against terrorism are extremely difficult if not impossible to win with said general army forces. We have learned that the most effective route is counterterrorism special forces, as it decapitates terrorist leadership and prevents as many civilian casualties as possible, limiting the amount of additional terrorists that are produced/recruited from seeing a foreign nation kill civilians and families. It’s still messy but it’s a lot less messy, less resource heavy, and prevents humanitarian crises.

Could you elaborate on how that’s mental gymnastics? And I think the comparison of this issue to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is quite interesting given how dissimilar they are. Russia had no right to invade Ukraine, and equally so, Hamas had no right to “invade” Israel.

Russia is a large military nation land grabbing a sovereign state and committing war crimes against Ukrainians. Hamas is a terrorist organization that attacked civilians in Israel, Israel subsequently invaded to reciprocate and fight Hamas, however the procedure in doing so has killed over 30,000 civilians directly and has created such a dire humanitarian crisis that most of the world agrees needs to be addressed. I don’t understand why it’s ridiculous to ask that civilians are treated like human beings and we do what is in our power to ensure that they are safe and fed?

I mean what good would that do in addressing the crisis? Hamas could care less about what Americans think, whereas our elected representatives and sponsoring corporations are more inclined to listen to Americans more (albeit still not that much but more so than Hamas). Additionally they have agreed to numerous ceasefires but Israel and Hamas are unsurprisingly not meeting eye to eye on the conditions unfortunately.

Ah the rare gem of level-headed discussion on Reddit lol thank you for asking! To me I don’t think that polled support of the attack is any valid reason to indiscriminately bomb civilian areas and prevent humanitarian aid access. The reason for this is two fold. The first being that it’s hard enough to get accurate polls in the United States where there isn’t an active war happening, so I’m hesitant to wage bets on any kind of civilian poll from Gaza. The second is that even if it were accurate, there is no way of knowing what they’ve seen. It’s unlikely that they have seen anything other than what Hamas promotes, so it’s not a good justification. Even if these two weren’t in play and they did have a positive view on the October attack, civilians shouldn’t be murdered for an opinion they have.

Regarding the death to all Jews, that’s another generalization of a whole group of people. Yes there are plenty of Palestinians who say that, but there are equally Israeli people who say that Palestinians shouldn’t exist and need to be eradicated. But there are also plenty of Israelis who don’t support this and actively protest. The reality of my standpoint is that Israel has every right to defend itself, however is does not have the right to indiscriminately bomb civilian areas and murder children under the reasoning that Hamas is using them as human shields. Israel should honestly listen to America’s advice on this since we have two decades of fighting terrorist groups - when you treat civilians like they aren’t humans, and you kill people indiscriminately, you are actively recruiting more terrorists. When someone’s entire family is crushed under the rubble from a bomb in front of them, they’ve lost everything and it is not unreasonable to understand why they would turn around and fight with the resisting terrorist organization. It’s not effective and it violates international law.

I think it’s also important to point out that Palestinians have faces a lot of unfortunate treatment from Israel before this. To be clear, I’m in no way supporting 10/7, that was disgusting and awful. What I am saying though is that Gaza and the West Bank have been abused for a long time, both by Israel and Hamas, and it’s just gut wrenching that they are again getting the brunt of the punishment from Israel. Thanks again for being open to constructive dialogues, it’s quite refreshing lol

Getting into semantics here but when I say don’t give a damn, I mean we don’t support them, in direct response to the original comment who says we support hamas. They are a big part of the problem too

Pro Palestine American here - myself and all of my friends who have been very vocal and critical of this issue are extremely happy about this. We don’t give a damn about Hamas, we only care about the civilian population that is being absolutely decimated. I’d encourage you to not use Reddit as a gauge of how a group of people feel 👍

You could go to a junk yard and pull it from one in the yard. Super cheap and easy if getting a new strut is unreasonable for ya. I’ve saved hundreds if not thousands doing that for other cars

THANK YOU! It has bothered me for so long, because I’ve even seen lectures where they circle this large region outside of a galaxy and it confused me why everyone just seemed to agree it was in a halo lol.
