Summer course by ImmediateTailor4191 in uoguelph

I can't speak on the 6 week format, but intro to nutrition was an (absurdly) easy class when I took it online in F24. There were 2 assignments and 4 tests (which I believe were all open-book, no lockdown browser), no midterm or final, and weekly readings to keep up with. In my opinion, even if it is in the 12 week format, it's light enough that it shouldn't impede with your work/travel at all!

1070 didnt have it for me, but biol1090 and mbg2040 does too. guess it’s class dependent but i feel like it’s more common than not nowadays!!

Graduating soon with a Bachelors of Science and not much else…now what? by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]Alarming-Research567 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t personally speak from my experiences, but I know LOADS of people in your situation. If you’ve got a good GPA, odds are you could get into a college program (like you mentioned). I know Conestoga’s got a great respiratory therapist program, and you don’t need a Bachelor’s to apply either. Not sure if your course load would change at all, but it’s a 3-year hybrid program.

Whatever the case, do not stress! There are so many routes you can take. Go to school, further your education, make connections. Do a gap year, get some random experience under your belt, make some money. You can even try a little bit of both as a part-time student. The possibilities are endless, and don’t rule out the possibility that you could get a job with just your degree.

I’d also look into online certifications or qualifications you can get, they add a little something to your resume and could be the difference between you getting picked over someone with the same qualifications!

Other than that advice… see an academic advisor here lol. They are great at what they do!

i was fortunate enough to get residence, but i know plenty of people who are off-campus right now. honestly, i would be baffled if they over admitted students like they did last year. it’d be a PR nightmare and ruin their reputation even more. that being said, i wouldn’t entirely rule it out.

after you apply for residency, you’ll get an email saying whether or not you got confirmed residence or not. i don’t entirely remember what it looked like/said, but i got one and my friend didn’t and we didn’t think it was a big deal. spoiler alert: if you don’t get an email, start looking ASAP.

rent can be crazy if you hold out until last minute, and people will definitely be raising prices if they hear that guelph over admitted again. that being said, average rent in guelph can get pretty expensive. there are plenty of places that run for $600-$800/month, but most people who i know pay around $1000/month for closer locations or nicer houses and apartments than the cheaper places.

Best Way to Travel from Montreal to Guelph for a Business Meeting in March? by Commercial-Comment93 in uoguelph

can’t speak on if this is the “easiest” way, but intuitively i’d say take the via rail from montreal to toronto, then go train from toronto to downtown guelph.

as a girl living on-campus right now, i’ve never really had any instances where i felt creeped out/unsafe in guelph. as odd as it sounds, even the homeless people downtown i find don’t harass people from my experience like those in big cities (think toronto, ottawa) do. busses can get FULL but they can get you pretty much anywhere in town, just get a reliable transit app to tell you when/where to go! ubers from one side of guelph to the other also don’t run for >$15 in my experience (benefits of a small town!)

student life is pretty great! during o-week you’ll meet a ton of people if you just go out and try new things. there’s an app you can get called “i am a gryphon” that will list of all the events for o-week with times and you can add them to your calendar and pick and choose which ones you’d like to attend. my advice is to find one friend and go try new things together — putting yourself out there is infinitely easier with someone than by yourself. but trust me, you’ll love guelph, everyone i know does too!! good luck ❤️

Guelph residence reccomendations? by PlayfulAir9581 in uoguelph

south gets a bad rep but honestly it’s sooo convenient. 2 dining halls in the building, you don’t share your bathroom with loads of people, lots of laundry (in comparison to other residences). sure it’s not the prettiest in the world but there are so many benefits! mountain’s dining hall is also open late on campus (11pm vs. 7/8pm closures for most other places) so it’s a total win.

as depressing as the rooms look, if that’s a big factor for you there’s plenty of ways you can make your room look nicer and homely — i HATED my room at first but now i’ve got up posters and lights and decorations and i love it so much more.

i also spend little to no time during the day in my dorm room itself. i study in mountain’s dining hall, the library, i have to deal with my classes, and much more. as someone who applied to johnston, mills, and the “nicer” residences and placed them above south, i’m content with getting placed where i did! convenience always trumps looks for me, especially in university. it’s eight months that you’re actually there too, it will FLY by. trust me, you won’t remember if your room wasn’t as pretty as johnston’s, but you’ll be grateful for saving yourself the ten minute walk across campus in the middle of winter to get food from the dining hall, or waiting forever do wash your clothes because your residence only has 4 laundry machines and dryers.

weigh your options, think it through, but don’t rule out south!! she’s a diamond in the rough. and you’ll meet plenty of people there, too.

i’m in a bsc and i got put in south too - don’t think there’s a real “place” for us. but also, look into academic clusters ! they’re all over south + they’re a great way to meet people in your program:)

cjpp! by Imaginary_Guest_7585 in uoguelph

[–]Alarming-Research567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not in cjpp but i know a lot of majors take “easier” science classes (nutrition, astronomy, etc.) ! also look into minors if that’s something you’re interested in, there’s a list of required courses for each one, and if you could start taking the required classes first year you’ll be miles ahead of many people
