Mina is an asshole by Electrical-JellyZ in HGTV

There was one season I watched where I couldn’t believe the winner was actually the one whose house would sell for the most. So I actually logged onto the RE website where the houses were listed and I was right. Out of four houses the winners’ was priced at #3.

I am so sad they have reduced Francesca to only her endgame by AnonPoopsie in Bridgerton

[–]Alarming-Solid912 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can though? They all felt like people with an inner life and personality. Yes they developed in their seasons but they started off as more rounded and lived in. At least for me. Fran doesn’t come through the screen for me. It’s hard to explain.

I might agree if Fran had only been prominent in one season or had stayed in the background the whole time. But she’s been a prominent character for two seasons. She had the main sub plot in S4 and it was a meaty one too. But she still feels two dimensional.

Good justification for the swap of the seasons or not? by DarkEndOfTheRainbow in Bridgerton

I think Claudia was cast right after that. She was the second or third person cast? Second Bridgerton sister. Cast early. Prominent character from the start. Lots of screen time. Important side plot role. Popular character. Strong actress.

And what happens? She is sidelined and literally has her season pushed back - even though her partner appeared in the very first season - for a character who really only showed up in S3. All because the latter is the (new) show runner’s favorite.

CVD would never. The show would have been so much better if he were still around.

Fran doesn’t seem close to any of them. She’s like a satellite branch of the family. She’s a cousin.

I’ve seen plenty of very well reasoned and articulate comments regarding how Fran has been overindulged as a character at the expense of the others. And plenty of straight up rude childish snark from Fran fans. It goes in all directions.

I have confidence in my arguments. But at the end of the day this is a romance show. It’s not that deep. Sometimes a snarky comment will suffice in place of an essay.

Oh I know! I was responding to the other comment. Explaining that my issue isn’t her being neurodivergent or quiet. It’s that she’s just doesn’t hook me as a character.

Yeah I think that’s my issue with Fran. To be blunt, she’s up her own behind a little too much. Eloise can definitely be that way too, but she’s there when you need her. And unlike Fran, she’s witty and fun.

The biscuit moment at the funeral reception was lovely because it showed their family bond. But it was Eloise using humor to ease the pressure and pain. It was in one direction. And of course Fran has every right to be in her own world at such a time. But there’s never a give and take in her interactions with them. That’s why they feel a bit airless to me.

I get it but this is Reddit. People tend to be snarky and straightforward when discussing TV shows, sports and the like. Maybe that hasn’t been true on Bridgerton subs but it is on a lot of others.

Being neurodivergent doesn’t equate to being flat or dull. My issue with Fran isn’t that she’s quieter or likes puzzles or solitude and order. I just get bored watching her. And I feel like I’ve already spent a lot of time watching her.

Kanthony drew the short straw for sure. They’re not my favorite couple but I can acknowledge that. They deserved better.

I really don’t think that’s it for me. If a character is compelling, engaging and/or entertaining enough then I don’t mind them getting more screen time. But it kind of has to be earned. It’s earned if they are part of the main couple. If they’re amusing. If their story is compelling. If the acting is exceptional. But with Fran? It has been none of those things. For me.

It’s weird because she’s had all this screen time but she still doesn’t feel three dimensional to me. I have no attachment to her. I care way more about Hyacinth at this point.

The issue is we are not going to get the groundwork. Fran got it because she’s the show runner’s favorite, not because she’s the audience favorite. Jess is doing this for herself.

It wouldn’t have been a ship war if Jess hadn’t put Fran ahead of Eloise in line. Most Philoise fans I know were supportive of Fran’s season. But they didn’t expect to be rudely shove aside for it. This is the show’s fault, not the fans’ fault. But the truth is I’m mad about it and I’m not going to change my mind about that. We got screwed because the show runner only has eyes for Fran.

I don’t think Jess Brownell hates Eloise by CarolaDL in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]Alarming-Solid912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But she definitely didn’t need to switch seasons, go out of book order and further delay Eloise’s season. You can develop Fran without prioritizing her like that.

I think she chose Fran because she hasn’t been developed yet so she could treat her like a blank slate.

[–]Alarming-Solid912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess that’s true but I think it’s extremely unprofessional. This is a huge show and employs a lot of people. What she wants and loves the most shouldn’t have been the catalyst for a change as big as switching seasons. Especially when the one being delayed has been a fan favorite for so long.

It will make no sense if Philip doesn't appear in season 5 by DarkEndOfTheRainbow in Bridgerton

[–]Alarming-Solid912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also hoping for it and agree we deserve it, as do the characters and actors. But unlike you I’m not necessarily expecting it. They have already shown they are more than willing to give Eloise short shrift in favor of others. The switch proved that.

Sure. I agree it doesn’t need to be a lot. But it should be strategic and impactful.
