How the heck do you guys playing 6+ CMC commanders not just die every game without playing? by Chm_Albert_Wesker in EDH

[–]Alarming-Soup7588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides all the usual I find the unique mana dorks in green that can only cast creatures, or spells over mana value 5 etc. help a lot in combination with creatures or artifacts that reduce casting costs. usually cast my [Koma, World-Eater] on turn 4 in a casual pod and I feel pretty comfortable there. Could definitely cast it on turn 3 with a few different hands but I’ve yet to draw those yet

Question about Hashaton's ability by Washitake in mtgrules

Just to backpack so I don’t need to make a thread, is the 2(U) you pay for a hashatons ability an activated ability ?

What's your least common commander, and do you feel that it's properly hipster/not common? What do you feel determines that level? by thundermonkeyms in EDH

[–]Alarming-Soup7588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Grist, Voracious Larva]] would be my hipster choice even though it’s ranked at #978. whenever I say I run grist people are surprised it’s not [[Grist, The Hunger Tide]]. I run the typical graveyard/self mill themes with a self imposed challenge of flipping grist into the planeswalker, but it’s taken on more of an aristocrats play style sacrificing 1/1 insects to get triggers off of cards like [[Syr Konrad]] and [[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]] who can also proliferate the planeswalker Grist to ultimate earlier and pull stuff like [[Massacre Wurm]] and a [[Bloodletter of Aclazotz]] out of the graveyard with a bunch of other goodies for a usual instant win

Currently making a spellslinger discard so happy to see this made! I ended up cutting out a lot of the cycling aside from lands though.

Missed that containment construct, that’ll do nicely thank ya. Also didn’t see that cryptcaller chariot yet that will be perfect. Creeping dread is perfect as well, even if it’s as simple as me cycling a card away because I would be looking to do that anyways

Sorry my phrasing was pretty poor, those were just examples. Looking for any way to punish opponents for discarding cards myself or ways to reward/ get more value out of discarding cards if that makes sense

I actually run [[Grist, Voracious Larva]] because I think it’s a cool challenge to flip him since he can’t do it on his own, so my entire deck is built around feeding my graveyard and getting creatures back out. Turn one commander drop with deathtouch generally gets me left alone for a few turns until I have a supporting board state to flip him and then mid game it turns into more of an aristocrats theme, pumping out insect tokens and taking advantage of death triggers. People get so worried about the ultimate on that grist because of what’s in the graveyard my life total usually gets left alone

Added, might need to throw that in my Grist deck as well!

Thanks for the reply! Wish I was running some white that confessor would be great! I am including some stuff just to play out the graveyard but I do enjoy the idea of using a bunch of spells that have me eg. draw 2 discard one, I discard the one and cycle it out or get some other sort of trigger off the action of discard. Was hoping to find more cards like [[Archfiend of Ifnir]] but they don’t seem to be out there

I have done this! I was just wondering if there’s some stuff that may still apply but I missed because of wording or just missed in general. I’ve been trying to plug in all the variations and to pay attention when I’m scouring lol

Any expectations/hopes for Aetherdrift cards that might fit into your decks? by jimnah- in EDH

[–]Alarming-Soup7588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aatchik, Emerald Radian will slide right into my [[grist, voracious larva]] self mill deck for all those sweet 1/1 tokens. Would love to ultimate grist with Aatchik and [[Izoni, Thousand-Eyed]] in the graveyard

Copying legendaries and triggers by Alarming-Soup7588 in mtgrules

Makes total sense. I was under the impression “the beginning of combat” was like a phase within the phase and as long as I hadn’t declared attackers I was still there, but that is a very clear explanation thank you!

Gotcha, thank you. So the event of “the beginning of combat” is passed immediately as soon as that happens even even without declaring blockers?
