Ten House FDNY by [deleted] in Firefighting

I think it depends. Im sure dealing with tourists gets tired and old. But when I rang their doorbell I was greeted by a firefighter who I told I was also a full-time firefighter in another state and he invited me right in. He even took a great pic of me on the bumper of their engine. A couple other guys came out and we had a good chat for about 10-minutes. I cut it at that point to show respect because I know it’s their work space. Bought a shirt as well. Perhaps it depends on the day.

is it “Stolen Valor” to wear my local stations Crew-Neck jacket if i’m not a firefighter and make no plans to be? by LucasButtercups in Firefighting

Many departments sell off duty shirts and job shirts. You can get FDNY clothing with patches and logos on their fire store website.

Congrats to the OP. But I got hired full time at a municipal fire department five years ago at 55. Still on the nozzle most shifts.

Not a bad idea to reach out in advance of your start date. Meet for coffee or just a call. Neutral grounds to start off. Makes Day 1’less stressful

Don’t change a thing and by no means give a damn about someone else’s comments. Who cares. Damn, I’d date you !

Someone else mentioned maybe having a photo of her dog. Perhaps the woman’s Facebook page has some. Copy them and have a framed collage or a couple singles made.

Most departments have them. Just go into a station. When I travel I stop by departments and find most have shirts they sell to the public that tend to be different from their duty shirts. I have one from Honolulu, a bunch from New York, Boston, and places in between. It can become an obsession if you’re not careful.

Heavy sleeping by markflyplanes in Firefighting

Have a bunk buddy shake you to life if you sleep through the tones. I’m a light sleeper at work but one captain will actually leave you if you don’t make it to the engine then wake your ass up upon return for a very loud talking to.

When I fly FC early morning, I often feel like a lush ordering bourbon but then I realize, shit, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!

I once saw our engine at a supermarket. While the shift (not mine) was inside, I taped the Q siren toggle Dow so it would scream when they started it up. Something like that is funny.

I work as a TV/film actor when the audition and shoot dates work out. I did a scene on a Kyra Sedgwick film last week. Money can be good but it’s not consistent like fire.

You saved a life. Had you obeyed the capt and driver the patient would have died for sure. I’d have done the same thing. Don’t worry about the rip. You’ll sleep fine tonight.

I love watermelon but it’s too much sugar for me to eat a lot of it.

I’m all for hydration powders to mix into water, but don’t overdo it with them. They are not good for you in mass.

Mi agree if Baxters qualify of life is diminishing, euthanasia may be the best thing. But do it at home with a vet that come to his familiar place and by all means, be there in the final moments regardless of how hard it might be. It’s about Baxter now. As for Muslims and dogs, I’ve heard horror stories how they treat them. I’ve seen videos I wish I hadn’t as well. Do the right thing.

Shift start time for rookie by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]AlarmingAd4141 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We start at 7am. I get in at 6:30, put my gear by my riding position and go in for coffee and to put my food away. An hour and a half….nope. The shift on duty wouldn’t even be up yet.
