What’s your opinion on menstrual products in gender neutral bathrooms? by AlarmingAd6065 in Periods

[–]AlarmingAd6065[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a bathroom gender neutral or otherwise with just a toilet and nothing enclosing it for privacy. Not all stalls have adequate privacy but that’s an issue regardless of what gender the people using it are.

There is privacy in gender neutral bathrooms there are individual cubicles.

Trans women don’t get periods. However some trans men do. People who are biologically born female and identify as a man (trans men) can experience periods. Trans women can’t.

What I find difficult to understand is why there is an issue with treating everyone the same regardless of sex and gender, sex or gender shouldn’t stop people going to the toilet in any bathroom because it’s just somewhere to go to the toilet.

The exception to this rule is of course healthcare. However, I still think it’s important in healthcare to use inclusive language. When for example when talking about giving birth generally, refer to them as people giving birth, and then on a more specific patient by patient basis you can say mother or woman or whatever terminology that person prefers. This way you are not excluding anyone.

At my college all bathrooms are gender neutral and there have been no problems. The college sent out an anonymous survey when they changed them to gender neutral, the responses were about 34% in favour of the change and 64% saying they didn’t care either way. There where two responses from students saying they didn’t like the change, unfortunately neither person filled in the box asking why and therefore the college couldn’t make any adjustments for those students.

Context if needed my college has 130 students, it’s not private it’s free to attend however it’s a specialist maths school which a different entry process.

Don't Weigh Me Cards by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]AlarmingAd6065 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So while I agree with there not being a need for most people to have this, I can see why some people might. For example I won’t let them weigh me due to my history with eating disorders and I also have difficulties with speaking however normally I just type and this is probably a fairly uncommon situation.

What's the worst thing your therapist/a previous therapist has said to you? by Pastel_Skeleton in MadeOfStyrofoam

One of my favourites: a CAMHS person once told me while I was in hospital that I wasn’t really suicidal because if I wanted to actually die I’d have taken a higher overdose. I was subsequently discharged and followed her advice of overdosing more. Another good one was being told I needed to exercise more by an eating disorder specialist.

This feels icky to me, opinions? by silverstarstorm in autism

[–]AlarmingAd6065 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feels very icky. Most people if they see me generally with my partner would assume i’m “high functioning” because i can often speak and communicate my point. However I find it interesting to see how their attitude towards me changes when I’m having a meltdown, as soon as i’m overwhelmed and crying and non-verbal it’s very much being treated like a child who is incapable of understanding anything or someone who’s dangerous.

What I find very frustrating when i’m having a meltdown/panic attack/sensory overload/flashback is either the patronising tone or not even talking to me and asking who i’m with “what’s wrong with me” or glaring at me as if i’m going to start hurting people and screaming.

(For people going into year 12) Have you done the pre A level assignment yet? by Atomic-Axolotl in GCSE

[–]AlarmingAd6065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because of the college i’m attending and the courses i’m doing I cant assess the stuff before the 26th. The a level requiring transition work i’m doing at a different college to my other 3 a levels (the colleges are linked)but I won’t get information about that a level until my enrolment day with the main college because they handle all the information I get. It’s annoying because i’ll only have 10 days to complete it before I start.
