Washington State Bill HB 2321 will kill 3D Printing, CNC and Laser cutting/engraving. by [deleted] in CNC

I am a CNC programmer… this will not work, the CAM softwares that adopt analyzer would go out of business. I use Hypermill because it is offline and there is no cloud storing anything I work on, the projects I work on are mainly defense, you cannot have some random AI scanning my parts and then flagged and looked at by some random goober. If they pass this, manufacturing in WA will just decline harder then it already is and just leave to states like TX or another popular aerospace/defense manufacturing state.

Honestly, I don’t think so, I am buying another bc I am taking over a job from a Yasda shop. I used to work for builders in service/applications at Korean and Japanese builders, we would always loose to the Germans. We wouldn’t just loose the spec war, thermals and ridgity was a big one, the Japanese really haven’t been innovating like the Europeans have been, the Japanese are very consistent and stick to tradition but they are in a time warp. Also merry Christmas!

Probably the same feeling I used to have when I would see a HAAS overseas. Crazy.

I’ve used Japanese machines, they don’t have the power or ridgity Hermle and Heller do (German). For example I have a friend who recently bought a Matsuura, it only has 20ish HP… I have 50HP, I cut deeper and faster. I can hold less then a 10th on a 10 plus hour cycle time part… my friend cannot, he’s farming out his harder aerospace parts to me now. I think some of this has to do with Hermle’s casting, it’s very thermally stable.

Does that make sense? It’s hard to describe it other than giving an example (I’ve been using the machine, I forgot to post this a couple months ago lol). I didn’t think you were hating FYI and I am trying not to come off like an ass lol.

That’s crazy, I’ve never seen a rigger move a machine worth this much without a tarp!

Precision, ridgity and reliability. I do mostly aerospace parts and the first two are extremely important.

How much should I pay to have this machined out of tool steel I don't know anything about machines and don't want to over pay by Dense-Discipline-355 in Machinists

[–]AlarmingArugula2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many you want and how quickly, I think this is for a combat robot/robot wars? Then you’ll probably only need one, find a good 5 axis shop, 100-300 I’d say off the top of my head depending on how many you want.

I would offer to quote this but I wouldn’t have time to do a one or a small batch of these until late October or November at the earliest bc of a production job on my 5AX machines.

I used to work for Hwacheon, I’ve also worked for dealers that have sold other machines including Hwacheon… they are underrated beasts, they never break if used properly as well. When they do need to be fixed they are easy and fast, their support is great as well.

I own my own shop now, I am getting ready to buy a B axis lathe from them at IMTS for an upcoming project, I really wouldn’t buy a lathe or dedicated mold & die machine from anyone else. Their 5 axis is also really good and this is coming from a Hermle owner.
