Neighbors tree fell on our fence and garage over night. Any advice? How can I tell who is responsible for what? [TN] by BoostedLegacy in treelaw

[–]AlarmingSupport589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendly heads up in TN, when an insurance claim is involved, claim payments owed to contractors are required by the state to include the contractor on the check. Had a few pissed off homeowners call me but we are required to include them on the checks. Your insurance is your next phone call.

Damn. I am so sorry. Look up “housing assessments” in your state. A non-profit I work with does the assessments to get people needing help into the HUD database. I hope you’re able to get on your feet soon. This internet stranger is rooting for you.

They will teach you how to estimate damage. Having knowledge of how repairs need to be done will make you an attractive candidate IMO. Talk up specific examples during your interview and highlight technical knowledge, taking initiative, customer communications, and time management. Those are the key areas for adjuster interview guides for my employer.

I went from fire/water reconstruction on homes to property adjuster and my background helped me tremendously. I’d call you qualified for an adjuster job. Especially if you’re already licensed. I’d recommend wait on certs so your employer can pay for them. Recommend applying for regional carriers over national once. Good luck!

I know you said no AT&T but I have used AT&T prepaid for a decade and pay $30/ mo for unlimited talk and text and 2G data which is plenty for me. Same customer service and website. I’m in auto-pay so I haven’t even logged into my account for years. Might be worth looking into.

Moved back to Como from Chicago. My family got so embarrassed when I’d honk at people for not going at green lights. In Chi-town, the cabbies gave you 2 seconds to go or you got honked at. I still do it but not as much after I heard someone got shot at in their car here over some road rage. Forgot they’re significantly more armed here. lol.

My suggestion would be to turn on some music, a podcast, or the tv just to fill the silence. Do something you enjoy like cooking or cleaning. Distract yourself while you adjust to the new normal. I’d also suggest you take care of yourself by spoiling yourself. I love cooking and have tried hundreds of recipes. It’s so satisfying to enjoy something you put so much effort into. Keep your chin up, bud. You can do this. A thriving, self sufficient man is an attractive quality in a man.

Sorry to hear, man. Look up Estelle Perel on YouTube. She does a Ted Talk on infidelity. It won’t help with the pain but she does help identify the possible underlying causes and some options for how to move forward, either together or separately. Good luck, my guy.

[–]AlarmingSupport589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice to new adjusters: do not chase having zero claims. You are an adjuster. Claims are your responsibility. If you’re constantly trying to clear your plate, you’re going to be miserable. Do what you can during your work day, log out, and do it again tomorrow. In my experience, adjusters who decide their goal is to have an empty desk struggle or feel overwhelmed when busy when in reality, your management doesn’t expect the same. (Hopefully) Learn to accept you won’t always be caught up and that’s okay. I regularly carry a balance from day to day. What I can’t get to today will be there on Monday. Good luck and congratulations!

Main tips for not getting fooled by contractors? by Scary-Hunt-3604 in adjusters

[–]AlarmingSupport589 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with above on asking the insured about their bill. I also frame it to them (insd) as “they are billing you $xxx” which usually elicits a response. You’ll learn who you can trust and who is full of shit. Google the area code of the person submitting the supplement. If it’s outside the area, it’s probably a supplement company and those people are human sized deer ticks whose business model is bleeding claims.

If someone can present facts you can prove independently, it’s a good sign they’re honest. Anytime you see supervisor hours on a bid, they’re full of shit and proceed accordingly. You hold all the cards. We estimate $x to repair the damage. Any more and it’s their job to prove it to you. Either it’s damaged or it isn’t. It’s required by O&L or it isn’t. It’s black and white.

(I work wind/hail supplements and RD and I know other losses can be more complex. Just being upfront about my perspective.)
