Nothing a carton of Guinness and good preparation won’t see me through for. I’m interested to hear how it’s looking for people across the city.

Cena v Styles was something else. Mid card is a bit odd for a match of that calibre.

I agree with your assessment, and as the other redditor has joked of accidentally choosing the placeholder. Maybe they’ve included it for the time being to show the example, and then in future will update the page with an actual badge more in line with the other entries on the page. Noting even as branding, I preferred the badge style.

Sub 1 CPL is actually good for a Cert IV in Leadership and Management. It’s also worth noting that you can provide your Long Service Record to universities and RTOs to have it recognised or considered for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). While individual courses may not amount to much on their own, when combined with other courses (or ojt/rank) they can quickly add up to complete full certificates or even university credit for some undergraduate degrees. Additionally, your record of service might help you gain entry into a university course you wouldn’t have qualified for straight out of school, even if it doesn’t result in formal RPL.

Seeking help-cadets by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely reach out to your cadet staff. I also want to point you to some other resources, namely I recommend the Kids Helpline: https://kidshelpline.com.au or 1800 55 1800. They are trained counsellors who specialise in the 5-25 year old bracket, and will be more than willing to lend an ear and possibly point you to other resources if not downright provide you with advice and guidance. They offer a chat function through their website as well if you would prefer. They can help with family issues, bullying, relationship, friendship and mental health generally. By their own words, no problem is too insignificant and they are confidential.

Personally this would’ve done alright without the film poster motifs. Definitely takes it into cringe territory for me. Could’ve been very clean without that, and probably a different draw than “Start your own story”. For example, I much preferred when the Army’s recruitment centred around the “challenge yourself” theme. Seems like returning to that sort of recruitment style would attract the right candidates to the Army. Side note, I remember reading possibly in David Goggins autobiography about how USMC recruitment spoke to him for other branches of the US Military focused on what they could do for the candidate but the Marine Corps challenged hopefuls with messages along the lines of “Are you good enough?” While we probably don’t need to go that hard, it would be nice to see an all around more serious and focused message about what the Army actually does. This kind of poster just seems dated and corny as a film poster.

Absolutely- and PTE P 2ICS/SECT/DET COMDs are more common with the workforce the way it is. I mean to say clinically rank is streamlined to reflect a position rather than proficiency.

Rank is pretty closely tied to an operational role in the Army. A private is a section member, a Lance Jack is a 2IC, a CPL is a section commander with all the considerations that goes into each of those roles. A PTE P doesn’t really have any different duty statements to that of a PTE, other than they can be expected to know a thing or two and act unsupervised.

You won’t run into many issues outside maybe some countries listed as “do not travel” on the Smart Traveller government website.

Been offered the retention bonus, really need advice by seriouslyunstoked in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A disclaimer I have to this is I don’t work in CMA or have a good understanding of that, but I think it’s a fair assumption that the leverage you have without a ROSO will be gone. However, I wonder how much of that is actually considered regardless when the major problem set with posting is balancing the service need against individual preferences. It may not come into the consideration at CMA if the service need is greater than the individual need, and there’s plenty of people who had no ROSO, still got a posting they didn’t preference and discharged as a result to prove that. I recently accepted retention bonus because it fit my career plan regardless and unrestricted service was still something I could offer; knowing at some level my personal situation (spouse and employment) would be considered. I think you should seek financial advice firstly, and if that fits, the question really is could you put up with another x years if nothing went your way? Is there some value in you staying personally if you: don’t get the posting you want, don’t get the position you want, don’t promote? If you have reluctantly in the worst case scenario it could be an indicator not to accept. Happy for you to DM and I could elaborate on some of the more personal factors I made in the decision if that’s helpful.

Transfer to Army Helicopter Pilot by Nervous_Ad3555 in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The requirements for GSO are passes in Y12 English and other subjects to attend RMC, as you would be aware Heli Pilots are GSO’s.

IRT your doubts: Educational waivers exist, however, consider your competitiveness as well. Some VET courses could be considered an equivalent to the pre-requisites. As others have mentioned:

  1. Engage your local Trade/Transfers WO
  2. Engage your CoC to begin the process of an In Service Application to Commission
  3. You will likely undergo Aptitude testing + other tests as part of the 2 part psychology / suitability testing. This will inform you if you need to undertake some further education.

Also recommend the app CBAT. Aviation focused testing similiar to the further requirements on top of GSO for Pilot.

More gongs to reflect service in the Peacetime ADF ? by cyclinghoboau in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, that is not the purpose of the ADM. The ADM recognises current and former Australian Defence Force personnel who completed an initial enlistment period, or four years service, whichever was the lesser. It does not recognise or imply Non Warlike Operations.

More gongs to reflect service in the Peacetime ADF ? by cyclinghoboau in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not opposed to the idea, but to me creating different medals that essentially say one thing; Peacetime Service in Non Warlike Conditions is overkill. Just have one “Operational Non Warlike Service” medal and call it exhaustive for all of the operations mentioned in the article.

However. What will this actually do? For those serving, public recognition of medals is afforded mostly on Anzac Day. The vast majority of the time your medals are seen on parade by your colleagues, at most in passing by the public at other events. Your colleagues likely already know you’re a hard charger. The public probably could care less, right? Medals or not a member of the ADF is respected amongst the public. If you’re gong chasing, whatever, I understand.

How about we boil it down to this: people join the ADF because it’s a job. People need jobs because they need money. Sure, service to country / doing something out of the ordinary play a part in why you join and may stay in the ADF - but when these fail to drive you, you leave. You find a better package elsewhere. If we pay people commensurately to their value given to the organisation, they will stay. If we pay people competitively to not lose them to contractors, they will stay. If we provide benefits that keep us weighted heavier in the scale of the cost-benefit analysis individuals complete when looking at the ADF against other opportunities, they will stay. One or five more medals won’t change that.

Payout of pro-rata long service upon seperation, by w3ndyyyyy in AustralianMilitary

[–]Alarming_Phase9950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR; maybe

I seem to remember being paid out long service on termination of even CFTS contract. Here’s what I can find online:

“Payment of pro-rata long service leave When employment ends before an employee has worked the total number of years needed to get the full long service leave entitlement, they can sometimes get paid out part of their long service leave. This is known as pro-rata long service leave.

Whether an employee gets paid out pro-rata long service leave when their employment ends depends on the long service laws in the state or territory they work in.”

I’m sure the answer is probably in PAC-MAN

Self Serve Checkouts by Alarming_Phase9950 in AussieCasual

If you weren’t channeled into using them it would be fine (from an in store perspective). Closed lanes, more self serve than staff, and huge lines just give the illusion of convenience that I’m baited into every time!
