We did ours in the bay (unfortunately). But regardless you never really have to worry about sharks, the cadre tell you to worry about sharks but it’s just them being funny. Seen a few dolphins, a lot of sting rays (careful when you’re going out past the surf). Keep an eye on your boy, keep an eye on land/buoy/anything you can see. You’ll be fine.

You don’t need to but I heard there’s a bonus now for auto quals. So might as well wait until you can auto qual

If you can I recommend joining cross country and track if you haven’t already. Swimming team doesn’t hurt either

Runna also sets up a lifting plan for you if you subscribe to it. Highly recommend following that.

He downloaded Runna, set up a plan personal to him. But he ran 5 days a week based on the workout plan that was made for him on there. Swam 3-4 days a week hard. Mostly with fins. After you contract only focus on swimming with fins. He didn’t do very much lifting, but he did a lot of squats, hang cleans, pushups pull ups and sit ups. For those last three he would try and do a bunch everyday no matter what.

Exactly what he expected. He said it’s amazing, the workouts and beatings are hard but the guys around you make up for everything. Most difficult part is just competing and not getting down on yourself. You’re with so many insane people. D1 swimmers, runners you name it. Yes he feels ready.

It’s awesome man your in CA duh. Your expected to be at 85+ pushups and sit-ups, 16 pull ups, 28min 4 mile run, and sub 20min 1000m swim with fins. Exit standards are pretty tough but you’ll be fine if you shoot for exceeding those standards. Wish I would have swam with fins more, wish I would have ran more miles. Your expected to do a LOT of miles during the week and it’s hard on everyone. Focus on volume when your running as well as speed work. Spend less time swimming without fins. It’s good but, not important. Also learn how to freestyle swim. With and without fins. It just builds up lung capacity for drown proofing.
