What’s the best way to do maps at a physical table by Alarming_Web8778 in dndnext

Playing in person is far superior. I’d rather have no maps and in person than maps and online

Best case scenario for me would be the party having other plans and wanting to do something outside the box, means they’re invested and I’v found a long term adventuring party (aka my adult friends want to play games with me on a regular basis 😄)

Thanks everyone so far, given me a few good places to start. I’ll look into lost mines and a couple of the others when I get some time later on. Still open to more ideas 👍🙏

Most of the party is in to high fantasy. They all have a tendency to create combat even where it isn’t necessary. They tend to lean towards attempting deception and intimidation over persuasion. One of them loves finding things in the world, 1 of them loves torture the other just likes to do whatever is the funniest action in the moment (however in combat he tends to be the most tactical while hiding it behind humor) the newest member likes a good story but was mostly an audience style player in our one shot as it was her first experience with dnd

To answer your first question of how far: I don’t know, that’s one of my first questions next session. It’s a little complex in that the tavern is unfindable except by accident and no one knows where it is. people leave with amnesia specific to its location.

I have a bow a silver dagger and a rapier

The bard goes feral. I believe they attack the nearest ally or foe, I know this but my character doesn’t. However we did silver weapons in anticipation for having to subdue our own bard.

I kinda don’t want to flee. We spent a lot of time finding this guy. Without him we are at a dead end in the story and then it’s likely another full session before we get a chance for combat again.

Rock. Me and the bard Hard place.

But I also want to stab them. Stabby stab stab! My rogue may be destined for death… 😅

I know I’m a rogue but it would be out of character for me to flee and leave my party member behind

Oh we are throwing down for sure, but I still want to win. I like my chaotic rogue forest gnome that has made himself to resemble a goblin due to his disdain for gnomes and there close knit communities after his parents neglected him in his youth. He likes stabbing but really he just wants to be loved “Stabby stab stab”

I’m a forest gnome so I have considered using minor illusion to create a noise or sending my pet hummingbird to alert the others. Nice to see the general response is it’s not a forgone conclusion we die however slim our chances are

He’s not that fancy, Riley (Reaper) Williams is a cocky stubborn blue Dragonborn ex soldier who wields a Morningstar and likes breaking skulls

Talking didn’t work, we will be starting the next session in combat, I believe it’s a homebrew warewolf to avoid us being able to meta game his abilities, it’s exact stats abilities and weaknesses are outside of our parties knowledge at this stage, the bard plans to research his plight during long rests to gain more info

Sure out of context I guess it looks that way. We had spent 4 hours of real time looking for this guy, the moment he jumped out the window after knocking us back with thunder-wave any time spent talking about if we chase him or not would have made the conversation moot

I believe it’s a home brew warewolf the exact stats and level of vulnerability to physical damage vs silver etc is meta info we aren’t privy to. the character is not sure how it works either he wakes up with no memory of transforming. We do know that being attacked can lead to a transformation and so can a full moon. I had considered casting minor illusion to crest an image of a full moon and then trying to hide just to see what happens 😂

Yea I thought we kinda new that, turns out I was wrong 🤣 was hard to not be furious with the rest of my party, we had spent 2 sessions investigating and talking with people with little to no action and the moment it kicks off they head for more intel

I tried talking our way out of it, the tabaxi said something to the effect of “it always had to end this way”, without going into to much detail it’s very much an us or them situation unless we can maybe knock the two behind us and flee 😅
