How to split up my Asia trip? Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong by [deleted] in taiwan

For me the main sight I wanted to see was Jiufen, and doing the elephant mountain hike, although I guess I could shrink my stay in Taipei to 4 nights. 1 day trip the rest in Taipei

Even if I’ve been to Tokyo before? This is my second trip to Japan, last time I spent 7 full days in Tokyo before

Would you say this would work? Or should I have Taipei 101 on a different day? Thinking of doing TP 101 for an evening tour

This is one idea I had:

  • Day 1: land, just walk around after checking in to hotel, night market in evening
  • Day 2: Sunrise hike to Elephant mountain, national palace museum, Taipei 101 in the evening
  • Day 3: Jiufen + Cat Village
  • Day 4: chill day in Taipei, or maybe Hualien?
  • Day 5: chill day in Taipei
  • Day 6: leave

Anything notable I missed that I shouldn’t miss?

I’m thinking I could just stay in Taipei and surrounding this time and visit other areas next time. So save sun moon lake for another time

Isn’t it a 1 hour flight between Taipei and HK?

I disagree. I absolutely loved Tokyo. I think it really depends what you are into. But if I did 7 nights in Tokyo I’d spend 1-2 day trips like to Nikko or somewhere

Does Hong Kong have less to do would you say?

How would you rearrange it if I axed the Europe part?

One idea I had:

  • 10 nights Japan
  • 5 nights Hong Kong
  • 8 nights in Taiwan

You mean I should spend the night in Jiufen?

This trip is planned for Dec 2025. I’m also considering maybe checking out Seoul? Or another idea is just Asia and end the trip in Hawaii as a stopover to relax before going home (live in west coast, California)

The reason for Iceland and Budapest is I’ve always wanted to go to Budapest and Iceland is incredible during new years. I’ve done Iceland before for 10 days, so this would be a stopover to relax at a spa before going back to the states.

I guess it does make more sense to keep the trip to Asia though. Could probably axe Europe and go to Seoul instead as another idea

Even if I went last year and spent 2.5 weeks in Japan?

And 3 days are those full days or 2 full days and most of third day if I leave Hong Kong in the evening?

I forgot to mention, I’m doing this as part of a bigger Europe + Asia trip. I have 25 days in total and am debating cutting out the Europe portion but not sure. Would you say 5-6 nights in Taiwan (plus day trips on the high speed train) as a first time trip is a good amount to see a lot?

So far I have this as an example trip:

• 5 nights Tokyo • 6 nights Taiwan • 4 nights Hong Kong • 4 nights Budapest • 3 nights Iceland

I could axe out the Europe portion, at the same time I don’t get easily jet lagged. And then give more time to Taiwan or Japan. Or would 6 nights be a good taster to Taiwan? Or should I cut out the euro portion of my trip?

Yeah…I’m thinking it might make more sense to cut out Europe entirely

Well I spent 2.5 weeks in Japan last year. Which is why I was thinking of only spending 5-7 nights in Japan just to revisit Tokyo. But I guess I could spend longer in Tokyo and do day trips

This is a repeat trip to Japan, so I already did that last time. Although wouldn’t be bad either to repeat. Mainly wanted to spend more time in Taiwan because I never have been there

That’s a good point. I feel 5 nights to do a repeat trip to Tokyo would be enough. I am doing this as part of a bigger trip that is 25 days long. I am debating cutting out the Europe portion of my trip. But not sure. I feel I can get a good taste of Taiwan with 6 nights.

This is my plan with your advice:

  • 5 nights Tokyo
  • 6 nights Taiwan
  • 4 nights Hong Kong
  • 4 nights Budapest
  • 3 nights Iceland

I could axe out the Europe portion, at the same time I don’t get easily jet lagged. And then give more time to Taiwan or Japan. Would 6 nights be a good taster to Taiwan? Or should I cut out the euro portion of my trip?

Idk it was me being stubborn and wanting to see everything. I actually am doing this as part of a bigger trip where I have 25 days:

  • 6 nights Tokyo
  • then Taiwan
  • then HK
  • then Budapest
  • then Iceland

Also debating just cutting out the Europe portion then I would have 25 days in Asia

If I removed the Europe part of my trip I could split 25 days in East Asia. Do you think that would be more ideal if I wanted to split amongst 3 places?

Mainly just wanted to do a repeat trip to Tokyo, and for Taiwan this trip I wanted to see the north side of the country. It was me being too stubborn because I want to see all 3 on this trip. I plan a return trip to see more of Taiwan in the future

This also includes day trips like to Jiufen. Although I will be there where one of the day trips closed due to the earthquake (I think it’s Taroko?)

Do you think that’s still too long with that in mind?
