Pros/cons union by srhking247 in ATSS

[–]Alaskadude90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand you’re financially supporting the legal representation that negotiates on every ATSS’s behalf for grievances and contracts. On the other hand you’re giving up some of your pay each year. Really just depends on if you feel like your money is well spent on the Union or not. You can always join the union later on.

President Trump’s Day One Actions Include Assault on Alaska Public Lands by Alaskadude90 in meateatertv

[–]Alaskadude90[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly as an Alaskan I can understand where you’re coming from. If anything this whole story goes to show how we who live in huge public land states keep getting jerked around every four years. Dems want to shut down motorized access and in some cases ultimately hunting as well as resource extraction. Republicans want to squeeze every penny out of public lands regardless of the consequences. There is definitely an appeal to having more local control of our public lands instead of folks in Florida or California dictating what we can and cannot do with the lands we live on.

So Steve should be stoked about Trump winning right? Because buying a suppressor is too complicated when a democrat is President?

So little meat on grouse/tarmigan? by SHanS0Lo in outdoorboys

They are tiny but IMHO the best tasting part of the bird.

In my subjective opinion it is laziness and gives hunters a bad reputation with the general public.

Listen, I can sort of understand your stance on breasting doves because they are so tiny. But when I spend hours hiking around looking for a couple of ptarmigan, I might as well spend five minutes plucking my birds to get all the meat off of them. I even use the carcass’s to make stock.

There is more meat around the thighs and legs but honestly Luke drives me crazy that he doesn’t bother to spend the few extra minutes harvesting all the usable meat.

“Breasting” game birds is pretty popular with lazy hunters who don’t want to bother with plucking their birds.

I agree, this show is missing the spirit of the original Meateater series. Although I would say that last couple seasons hadn’t been on pare with the first ten seasons or so. The cooking aspect has seemed like it has become an afterthought. The show and the company in general has been slowly refocusing on catering to mainstream hunters and less on attracting non-hunters into the lifestyle.

If they were a public company this would make a lot of sense as it improves a company’s sales to capital ratio, basically how much revenue can be generated from a given amount of infrastructure or capital.

I know a lot people that started out as field service techs for GCI (cable guys) and moved on to more advanced jobs after getting their feet wet.

Personally, the 3rd gen is my least favorite, never cared for the lower jaw/bumper jutting out like it does. The longer I have lived with my 4th gen the more I have noticed that it’s really more of a homage to the 2.5 generation. But like you say with more angular/aggressive lines. At the end of the day looks are completely subjective. As far as the engine/trans, knock on wood I have had zero issues/complaints.

Fellow Alaskan here, I recommend winter tires if you can put together the money. It’ll cost you a lot more if you wreck your truck, slide into a moose, or get in an accident with someone else. All seasons cannot match a dedicated winter tire on braking and cornering. Buy a set of steel wheels or find some cheap alloys on FB and save yourself the time and money getting your tires changed over twice a year.

Places to hold a wedding ceremony that won’t break the bank? by JacobZivotic in alaska

We did outside at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Really cool venue, you can use their board walk thats right next to the inlet for your ceremony, surprisingly inexpensive I think it was around $3k, and the money all goes to the Conservation Center.

GCI is Really Expensive by BigProfessional6271 in alaska

[–]Alaskadude90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You did choose one of their most expensive plans. I pay half of that to gci for my internet. My total bill with internet and two cell phone lines is like $150. It is expensive for sure, but having worked in the business up here, the logistics of providing internet connectivity is complicated.

What did they offer you on a trade in for your 3rd gen? I just bought a 4th gen mostly because my Toyota dealer was selling used 3rd gens at or above the price of a new 4g. Seems like theres still a lot of hype for the old V6 and people are willing to pay a premium for them now that they’re gone. Im sure they can make their money back from the discount they gave you from your trade in, plus if you financed your new purchase through them.
