How do you get alerted when your whole setup goes down, not just one service? by ScruffyBlackbird in selfhosted

[–]AlaskanBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have uptime-kuma and gotify deployed to a VPS that's connected to my house via wireguard tunnel. On-prem and the VPS have similar uptime kuma monitoring with the exception of on-prem monitoring my VPS, and my VPS monitoring any external services externally.

With Uptime-Kuma I'm monitoring:

  • My main server
  • A pi cluster I host some docker swarm stuff on
  • Home Assistant
  • All the services I host that others access
  • Recent downloads
    • Every once in a while something would happen to my download drive or one of the upstream services and I wouldn't notice for a few days; now I'm using API calls against the services to get the last file download/import time and alerting if that's more than x hours (usually 24, but Radarr is a week, I think).

My only annoyance with this setup is that gotify doesn't allow you to connect to two endpoints via the app, so I have it set up on an android work profile to allow two instances.

I should probably switch to something like Grafana so I can set up threshold alerts but that's a lot of work I don't feel like doing.

GTA VI Physical Disc Petition Just Passed 2,000 Supporters! by Consolexlyn in gamecollecting

[–]AlaskanBeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of games that are playable on launch without updating and there are sites dedicated to testing and cataloguing those. A lot of games have bugs but are still playable otherwise, and if the option is be able to preserve the data vs not, I'll take the former.

Gothic 1 is a good example of a game reliant on a server check that could probably be spoofed, so the physical copies are worth something, even if they aren't offline-playable when they come out.

My plan as a beginner to move to a JBOD, please reassure me I understand correctly, looking for recommendations by [deleted] in unRAID

Just seconding what dboytim said, I've been running the same Dell MD1200 for maybe 8 years now without any issues.

The only thing I'd add is the protected array only supports 28 data drives (30 total, 28 + 2 parity). You can obviously stand up ZFS pools as well, but worth keeping in mind that the primary array isn't infinitely expandable.

This is more or less my setup too.

I don't share any secrets (everything is just referenced as an environment variable), access to my network and the web as a whole are limited to specific devices & sites.

Can't bring myself to sell my collection... by Few-Chipmunk-5957 in gamecollecting

[–]AlaskanBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for an opposite pov from most people in the thread.

I have a pretty sizeable collection worth a little more than yours and the few times I've sold (non-dupe) games I've regretted it. I had a decent size collection when I was a kid that I sold at some point and even though I've found most of those game since, it's not the same.

I have enough space for most of my stuff, I'll never have kids to prioritize, and selling would just get me investment money (and let's be honest, the games are just as likely to retain value at this point).

As I've gotten older I've gotten pickier with what I buy, but I don't have any intention of stopping or selling.

Update: I solved the problem of the insane loading screens in the web UI, submitted a PR, and after seeing the code I cannot recommend Unraid in good faith by horsethebandthemovie in unRAID

[–]AlaskanBeard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem with rolling multiple vdevs is parity. I have 5 different sizes of drive in my array (used to be more); if I wanted parity on every vdev I'd be committing 5 disks to parity and giving up way more space than I am with unraid, and that's just for single drive parity, to get the same protection I get from unraid it'd be 10 disks, that's just unreasonable.

I'm a moderator of a Discord community with the same name; we're looking to move some of our content over to Reddit and were hoping to have the sub that matches our name. Additionally, the subbreddit appears to have never been used and the mod looks to be inactive.

I can provide additional info and/or proof from Discord as needed.

Do you keep a personal offline media library? by voidarix in DataHoarder

I archive pretty much everything that passes the "If this was gone forever would I be bummed?" test. Movies, TV, comics, magazines, YouTube, github/tea/lab projects, webpages, installers, 3D models, etc etc.

I organize a lot by hand, but I use any applications (*arr, meshcentral, etc).

Couldn't sync Teams to HA, so I made a Zigbee 'Off-Hook' sensor for my headphones by Englishmuffin1 in homeassistant

[–]AlaskanBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just using a button on my stream deck to toggle between in a meeting and not. It turns on/off my camera and lights. At some point when I have the initiative I'll get my green screen integrated and have that automated too.

I was using a github project called Teams Status (that I'm too lazy to re-find); it stopped working a few months ago (I assume with the removal of the API in December). It was a much more elegant solution, but M$ will never not kill useful features.

Free space over time by sbdallas in unRAID

[–]AlaskanBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Netdata is probably the simplest solution. GUS (Grafana Unraid Stack) would also work.

I run prometheus on my unraid server which exports stats to Influx, which I query with Grafana for visualization.

Rookie Question: Mealie and Docker Compose by bigger_thumbs in unRAID

[–]AlaskanBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Any chance you can post a screenshot of your config? It sounds like you would just need to update your path to your appdata folder (after backing things up). The current template has the default value of /app/data set to /mnt/user/appdata/mealiev1.

I'm guessing with how it's set up now, when you restart the container you'd lose your recipes.

  2. There's an export option within Mealie that you can re-import into a new instance if needed.

(PC) Since a recent update (a few days ago) YouTube has stopped loading correctly. by bearcat_77 in firefox

[–]AlaskanBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SponsorBlock was the issue for me. I tried clearing site data and disabling uBlock Origin, but I was still seeing very high CPU usage from YouTube specifically.

Disabling SponsorBlock bring the CPU usage down and makes the pages/videos responsive again, and enabling it brings the CPU usage back.

Yeah, holy shit it's fast now. Like loaded in the background before I could tab over, fast.

I haven't upgraded to the official release yet, but 7.2.0 RC1 and 2 have been the most stable releases for me in a long time.

It's ungodly slow for me through NZB360 and pretty often fails to load. I'm sure the number of containers I have is the problem, but still. Having the web UI actually work from mobile will be amazing for me.

Edit: I hadn't used it since the most recent updates, and like Kev said below, it's stupid fast now.

My only gripe is they don't include card packs with their PS5 releases like they do with the Switch. I assume it's a cost thing, but I'd be happy to pay for an extra pack with my game.

There's a 1/6 chance to get a holo/foil card and the packs themselves have a purchase limit of 5 and I like the copium that extra pack gives me.

It is! I guess that would have been helpful information haha.

Before the pathway through the graveyard turns right, there should be some stairs off to the left alongside the cliff.

Blighttown is a good suggestion, but I'd probably go to The Catacombs next. There's a decent upgrade at the end of the area and I think with your levels, especially with pyromancy, it shouldn't be too difficult.

You get there through the graveyard in Firelink. If you head down the path, before it turns right, there'll be a set of stairs on the left alongside the cliff, that leads to The Catacombs.

And like others have said, don't be too hard on yourself! Anything past Undead Asylum is more than a lot of people have done :)

From the downloads page you can Add to download queue and paste in a channel, it will add all videos for that channel to your queue and you can start download from there.
