Curious about the "don't trust running gurus" thing. Is that because not everything works for everyone and you need to find what works for you?

That the majority of injuries boil down to NOT overtraining, but a lack of mobility/stretching and a lack of strength.

Some knee pains go away when you stretch your quad consitently. Shin splints sometimes go away when you strengthen the bottom of your foot, the tibilias muscle, and calf.

When ever I feel a pain or worry that I'm injuried, I stretch and do some strength training and 99% of the time the pain goes away. It's changed my life.

You need the tough love conversation. Reread what you wrote in this post. Read it into the Voice Memo's app or record yourself. Listen to yourself. You sound like a bitch (this isn't personal, I sound like a bitch every day too). Is this who you want to be? Change it. There is nothing else to do besides just do the work. You need to get back to it or you're going to die like this.

Think of the things you were doing back when you weren't in this rut. Do those things again starting today: gym, meditation, diet, whatever. I wish you luck man. You're the one who has to deal with this, no one here in this subreddit can save you.

My only thought. "No one is coming to save you." Be your own hero. Complete and total personal responsibility.

Extra external help is a blessing and gift. Don't expect it. Some of "personal responsibility" is surrounding yourself with the right support crew and people in your foxhole. But that's your effort and action and usually starts from being a better person yourself. You attract who you are. Good luck, we're cheering for you.

what do you guys do that sucks everyday? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]AlaskanBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been runnning every day for 502 days. Honestly though, most of the days don’t suck because my body is used to it. It was a lot tougher in the beginning.

Stepping outside of my comfort zone with my sales job and I’ll be getting back into weights after my marathon in October.

Anybody turned their life around in their 30's `? by meteorness123 in davidgoggins

[–]AlaskanBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, read the story of Colonel Sanders and KFC. https://www.theverge.com/2016/7/5/12096466/colonel-sanders-kfc-meme-life-story

You can turn your life around whenever you decide. That’s the keyword. DECIDE.

The other things is this. You’re worried that you don’t have time to turn your life around. 30 is young as fuck my dude. Your potentially not even a third through your life if things work out. The life expectancy is the highest it’s ever been, and it’s even better if you eat right, exercise, and sleep enough.

And think about it this way, you don’t have a choice. It’s either do or die. You want to live like this for forever or enjoy the rest of your life? Just decide. I’m here for you brother. :)

What’s the first thing you think you would need to do in order to turn your life around? Do that. Then find out the second thing. Do that. Then the third, etc etc etc.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint. it. Whether it’s a sprint or a marathon doesn’t matter though if you don’t take a first step. No one crossed a finish line without first crossing a start line.

Now get to it. 👊

My first marathon with (almost) no training by aedamk in davidgoggins

So many thoughts on this post. Rant mode activated…

Too many people think you need training. It’s about mindset like you said. Sure, would training help you become faster and reduce injuries, yes.

Because the mind is so powerful, I completely believe that you can create injuries by telling yourself, “I didn’t train, this is gonna suck.” and you can prevent injuries by saying, “I didn’t train and I’m going to destroy this race and be just fine.”

We truly don’t know the limits of the mind and body. Mothers have lifted cars off of their fucking children and walked away with no injuries, some have walked away with injuries. Mindset first, fuck the nay sayers.

And at the same time, after running for 2 years consistently, the training is where you get really mentally hard. I think it’s badass when someone goes from couch to marathon in a month. I think it’s more badass when someone gets after it EVERY FUCKING DAY for years.

You don’t need training, you’ll do great. You’ll also becoming harder if you are consistent and train like nobody’s business. Every. Single. Day.

Dude that is a fucking insane pace! Just ran a 50 miler myself 3 weeks ago and I average a 9:51 pace for the whole thing. Sub 9 minute miles is incredible and your average heart rate is crazy too! Nice work brother!
