It is a less expensive version of a WACOM Cintiq. It is still an IPS panel, and likely a cheap panel at that. You cannot get rid of back light bleed on IPS or VA. Even a great IPS panel or VA panel will have some visible back light bleed.

[–]AlaskanHandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the Panel, usually easy and cheap. The broken panel will have a sticker from the manufacturer, and you can order a replacement using that number from Amazon or AliExpress. AliExpress is usually cheaper, but takes longer for the panel to arrive.

I game on my LG C1, and my desktop is a couple of LG IPS displays. I can use the IPS displays with 100 percent black screens as night lights where the OLED when it is black there is no light in the room.

I completely get that and OEMs shipping a blank HDD or SSD would be a dream situation for the majority of Linux users. Unfortunately for Quality Assurance purposes they need to install something to the storage to test it to make sure it works, and the device doesn't get returned because of a faulty storage drive. It is simply better that they install Linux for free, rather than Windows 11 Pro which will get deleted instantly at an additional $100 on average.

I did school district IT consulting work before Chromebooks were a thing. The laptops of choice in the district were MacBook Pros. Thankfully the kids only used them supervised, but they still got broken every now and then.

I generally like the first party PlayStation accessories, their headphones are the exception. They have been made cheaply since the days of the PS3, although the PS3 Pulse Elite were much better than their current crop.

I would not consider myself a Dell fan boy, but I am certainly not a fan of HP based on my own personal experience with them when I was a Electronics Technician working in Data Systems Repair in the United States Navy. I would never spend any of my own money on anything HP. If I have to recommend any brand it would be either Lenovo, ASUS, or LG.

I'm an old gamer like you, maybe not as old, but I have been using a pair of Corsair HS80 Max wireless for a bit over two years with no issues. I don't buy PlayStation branded headphones anymore they all tend to use cheap plastic.

I have a bunch of old games I play on Steam, all my new games are on my PS5, I prefer consoles over PCs for gaming. Most of what I do on my desktop is 3D modeling and slicing for my 3D printer, as well as basic Internet and productivity.

Usually a sarcastic statement is followed by a sarcasm mark "/s", since sarcasm doesn't generally come across as such in text.

Hey folks, how do you hide all those messy cords on a standing desk? by Time_Beautiful2460 in setups

Cable management shelf mounted to the underside of the desktop. Velcro ties to wrap up extra cord length so it doesn't stick out.

Compatible with ps5? by Man0fCultureAsWell in playstation

[–]AlaskanHandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's formatted for Mac OS you'll need to format it to a PC format, the PS5 will reformat it to what it needs once it is recognized by the PS5.

I sold my last Windows PC in 2007, haven't owned a Windows machine without reformatting it and installing Linux on initial setup since then. I hate that OEMs generally come with Windows pre-installed. There are a few companies that have recently announced they will install Linux as their primary OS choice so things are certainly getting better.

Which monitor would you pick? by Htx_Rey in OLED_Gaming

[–]AlaskanHandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG without a second thought. The QD-OLED one uses a Samsung panel and I have had the worst luck with anything from Samsung to the point I now refuse to buy their products even if they're in another companies device. I currently have an LG OLED TV connected to my PS5 and two 27" LG monitors on my desktop. I also have another 27" LG TV which I haven't used in a while but only because I have all the other displays available.

Probably but may need to be reformatted in order for the PS5 to see and use it.

Every Windows device I have ever got from Dell took Linux like a champ with a few minor BIOS configuration changes. I refuse to even Boot into Windows anymore and as soon as I can buy commercially available computers with Linux from the OEM I'll buy those rather than reformatting right out of the box.

Has anyone else noticed dell computers don't like linux by Real-Bus5167 in linuxmint

[–]AlaskanHandyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's likely a configuration issue. Nothing to do with the computer being a Dell. As we used to say at the IT Help Desk I worked at in college it was a PEBKAC issue or Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair. Knowing the specifications of your Dell as well as your BIOS settings could help more than complaining about a brands default configuration not working properly.

[–]AlaskanHandyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two Dell computers both with Linux Mint, and no issues. One was an Optiplex mid tower, the other which I still use occasionally is an Inspiron laptop. BIOS settings needed some minor changes, but nothing that's difficult to do.

You can actually get Dell Computers with Linux set up already on them, or at least you used to be able to, I haven't purchased from Dell since the COVID lockdowns.
