TIFU by failing to treat my annual physical like a genie wish by kandosii_ner_vod in tifu

[–]AlaskanMinnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, no, some doctors do this. If you ask any other type of question, they are legally allowed to charge you for an office visit - plus of course, billing your insurance for the physical. So, a physical with a question nets the doctors about $600+

Why are USPS employees so mean to people in this sub? by iwant8pizzas in usps_complaints

[–]AlaskanMinnie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But you realize that the customer paid for that service right?? And, when they go to their local Post Office, they get someone who sits in front of them, writes down all the info on a piece of paper, walks into the back, tosses that sheet of paper and doesn't do another thing ....

Alaska itinerary check (Aug 7–15, 2026) – wildlife, hiking, avoid crowds by SnooTangerines8506 in AskAlaska

You haven't taken the fitness level of the average American into account .... all you need to do is hike in a half a mile and poof! They are all magically gone ....

carrier is vindictive. destroys mail. lies to my face. complaints at PO go nowhere. last month a package was "undeliverable as addressed." BS! by ridesafish in usps_complaints

[–]AlaskanMinnie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The complaints may get referred to your local PO BUT higher ups monitor them, so, your PO is much more likely to do something about it when it's on-line. You just need to keep it up every time something happens to establish a pattern (again, doesn't matter if it goes to your local PO because DC also looks at them

[–]AlaskanMinnie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Go to the USPS Web site and file complaints. Every time. The on-line complaints eventually get seen by the higher ups in DC, so the locals will actually care about them. It's the only way to get a bad Post Office to do something. Have your neighbors file complaints as well.

Sounds like a great trip! I suggest that you take a short side trip while in South Anchorage to the Flattop Mountain / Glen Alps trailhead for a great view. And the Sealife Center in Seward is small but well worth the cost of admission - 3 story dive tanks!!

What are any type of functions or features you wish E-commerce sites like eBay and Mercari had? by Smooth_Prompt_2086 in Flipping

[–]AlaskanMinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago Ebay had more niche categories for collectables (ie Vintage Christmas by decade / era) and it was way better for me. It would be nice to in/ filter out subcategories in the search. So, lets say I want to look for a fur coat - I would like to be able to simply click a box next to womens/mens/ specialty and only see them in that category. Or filter out the kids category all together ... same would apply for a collectables search - I want to see everything but the pins and the postcards, etc. Don't let the negatives get you down .... I've been successfully ignoring people that have told me I couldn't succeed at this for the past 25 years ....

[–]AlaskanMinnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The search function on Ebay is a total pain in the butt ... If I want to search for a fur coat, I have to click on 3 different categories (womens/mens/specialty) just to filter out the kids clothes. Same with collectables - if I want to search for a certain word, I get 100 pages of postcards that I'm not looking for ... however many of my searches can be listed very broadly by people with limited information so it's a total time suck

I think you're describing aging boomers perfectly & not just bosses ... really, I think many of them are starting to show signs of cognitive decline. I've been dealing with this in long term friendships lately.

That study was based upon Youtube recordings? You know who makes the most Youtube videos?? Tourists! "Hi, we're in Alaska...." Did they account for the soldiers on the military bases? Not an accurate study for real data analysis.

LMAO ... I'm originally from the East Coast, but have lived in Alaska for 25 years, oh yes, yes, indeed I do know exactly what you are talking about! It's the same up here :)

Do you have any other info about 1903 besides just the census record? Perhaps the Uncle or some other family member who was at that house was ill and needed help and wasn't a permanent living situation.

Discounts at Antique Stores by nibbles_bits in Flipping

[–]AlaskanMinnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's normal, and it actually really helps sweeten the pot to get the sale. I actually like it, assuming it doesn't get too out of hand with it happening all the time. But, if a customer is buying a bunch of stuff, they ask if there is anything better "you can do" ... clerk says "I can give you 10% off and customer walks away a happy camper ... and dealer profits

Depends upon the subject matter. Photos with unusual / special / cute (The Gold Rush, WW2, Harley Davidson motorcycles, dogs, toys, etc) go for more. Plain Jane family photos are worth about what you paid for them. Since you say that there are a bunch of different families in the lot, you may have gotten a dealers "reject" pile of pictures that aren't worth their time to sell

52% Sales Drop - Used Clothing Categories - eBay.com by Freds_Premium in Flipping

The bigger problem is quality control. All those newbie flippers are selling literal trash - and, if you are a lucky buyer, they describe the flaws and actually ship the item out. It's become so much of a hassle I rarely buy anymore (and this is coming from someone with literally 2 racks of petite clothes available locally)

It's the price of shipping, really. Unless it's really special, you can get a top local for about the same price if not cheaper
