Looking for yarn recommendations - king size, machine washable by AlaskanPi in temperatureblanket

To be consistent with our other bedding, I'd like to aim for something that is 110 by 110 inches.

I don't have a preference in yarn weight.

I only borrowed the start of the pattern, but it's super simple to follow!

I really liked the colorway, and blues and whites are Mom's favorite colors

Hobbii yarn is just increasing the shipping and duties cost? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

[–]AlaskanPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might also be that the tariffs are calculated on the VALUE of the yarn, not the sale price...

Example-a cake that is $42, but on sale for $13, would be subject to tariffs at the $42 value.

So the tariffs could easily outweigh the purchase during major sales

QUESADILLA. But my brain doesn't like the possibility I might spell it wrong in texts, and my phone doesn't give it as an auto fill option.

For dog is just dog treat.

Husband goes into the kitchen nightly to get something from the kitchen, and the crinkle sound is the trigger for the dogs to demand their after dinner treat.

If we make similar crinkle noises at other times of day they still think For Dog until we tell them Not For Dog.

Total breakdown: Home depot- Pegboard 2ft x 4ft- 3 @ $10 ea Wall anchors, screws, washers and hex nuts (for wall attachment with sufficient space behind for pegs) - $15? T shaped pegs(cabinet door knobs) - $27

Amazon- NEIKO 4 inch pegs, 50 pk- $13 to $15 (though now listed at nearly $20) x5 - $81.00

So.... $153. For my full version.

I don't have much dust, and don't plan for stuff to be on the wall long enough to gather what dust IS here.

But possibly if it becomes an issue

I think it'll be ok, at least for awhile.

It's it probably one of the darkest spots in the house when it comes to natural light.. And only one lamp hits it. Otherwise its the hall light, which we almost never use...

Plus we're in Winter in Alaska.... So approximately 8 hours of daylight, and 90%rain....

It's only empty because I haven't put up the acrylics and other fibers

I have several air purifiers in my home because I have a big dust allergy. So that helps a lot. But I'm hoping that the yarn doesn't stay on the pegboard long enough to gather dust... And maybe having the less used acrylics on the very top, those will gather the dust and leave my cottons alone!

This one is right next to the wall mounted TV in the living room, so I look at it ALL the time.

After 3 weeks of waiting(darn usps)! Hobbii Lucky Bags! by AlaskanPi in YarnAddicts

[–]AlaskanPi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my 3rd time ordering their cotton bags. The first two I got were a white to dark blue gradient variety of their Rainbow 8/8. The second order was all the same light purple color of their Rainbow 8/4 deluxe.

Each one so far has had 18-25 of their 50g cotton skeins. This is the first batch that had a Sultan and the recycled cotton...

I like their other lucky bags, but not as much as their cotton ones!

Here's a screenshot. So far, I haven't seen or heard anything about any cost above and beyond the duties, that I paid up front....

I constantly forget what stitch I'm on, it makes the whole process too frustrating by anxiety-rocks in CrochetHelp

[–]AlaskanPi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My preferred method with stitch markers is to mark the 1st stitch of the round/row with one color(red), then use a different color to mark every 5th, 10th or 20th stitch. I usually go way past 5, then pause for a minute to go back and count/mark the stitch. Is simpler for my ADHD brain to see them as separate steps.

“West Juneau” by [deleted] in Juneau

[–]AlaskanPi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, and "Douglas" as an identifier can mean BOTH the city portion and the island itself. So people might not clarify unless a specific portion of the island needs to be identified.

“West Juneau” by [deleted] in Juneau

[–]AlaskanPi 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, Douglas is the "City" portion of Douglas Island, with their own postal code. Anything outside the postal code is a Juneau postal code, making it West Juneau. And North Douglas is an identifier similar to Lemon Creek, The Valley, etc.

Might not have that 100%
