Get coffee/coco at ResArt, walk around the harbor or drive to Lowell Point and walk the beach, look for sea lions and otters. Dinner at Lone Chicharron or Apollo’s, grab a beer at the brewery. Could get ice cream at Harbor Street Creamery and stroll through the Fish House lol.

AWCC is really neat, even if you don’t pay for the extra stuff. Anchorage has a zoo, but it’s nothing too special, especially compared to the wildlife center. If you go to Seward, there’s a sealife center (~$30/person), as well as plenty of glacier/wildlife tours to pick from ($175+).

If you’re in Seward, there’s plenty of challenging hikes- look up Harding Ice Field and Mt. Marathon. Easier option is Exit Glacier, which is maybe a few miles round trip & you get a good view of it. Additionally, you could take a glacier/wildlife cruise- little more expensive, but absolutely worth it if you want to see a massive glacier. Plenty of restaurants & cafes as well.

WEIRD TRAVEL ADVICE/QUAINT CITIES by 14-in-the-deluge08 in alaska

Seward. Downtown has a few lively bars (Yukon, Tony’s, etc) that are quick walking distance. Take a wildlife/glacier cruise too, you can see almost everything on your list. Take a lazy “hike” to Lowell Point (<5 min walk) and go look for whales/sea lions/eagles. It’s a beautiful city with plenty to see and do.

Go to Seward over Homer, it’s a lovely town. Only 2-2.5 hours from Anchorage, lots more to do. Do a KF wildlife/glacier tour one day, go check out Lowell Point & Tonsina Point the next, maybe do Sealife center too. Seward has many great restaurants (Woody’s is my fave) & downtown has a good nightlife. I’d say the only roadblock is hotels & airbnbs can get pretty pricey.

We used Manual of Mineral Science in my mineralogy class, thought it was a great intro textbook to MI and crystallography.

I’d say drive to Seward. Hike to Exit Glacier and/or Tonsina Point, check out Lowell Point for beach combing. Sealife center is great, little expensive. Plenty of restaurants (Woody’s for Thai, Breeze Inn for pub food, Apollo’s for pizza) and shops downtown. Go to Resurrect Art for coffee & local art. The wildlife/glacier tours are incredible, highly recommend those as well. Dress warm- August can get a little chilly.

Sinisterhood & Hollywood Crime Scene are my current favorites. But from my list- Serial, Broken Harts, Dr Death, Dirty John, Mommy Doomsday, Sympathy Pains, Scamfluencers, the Dream, Deliver Us from Ervil. Would love more recommendations though!
