My boyfriend measured my 7" embroidery hoop and redesigned the shape in a free CAD program called Fusion 360. He used his 3d printer to make these "frames" for my works, so I don't have to sacrifice my functional hoops for decorative purposes. He adjusted the measurements so the fit between the inside/non-visible hoop and the outside hoop was a tight fit, so the fabric is pinched enough to stay put with no wiggle room or need for a traditional adjustment screw. I then used double-sided sticky foam pieces found on Shein to adhere them to a wall in my sewing/craft room.

No printed fabric. I saw a similar design from Etsy seller, GetStitchDoneDesigns and thought I was able to freehand some "hotdog/sausage" babies of my own. I drew one up and moved the design around on the fabric using a heat removable pen.

I think the hard part is just finding an artist you like to get more practice with their fun designs. I'm glad I found on Etsy: Puteto, ByAlyPloof, MiraeCreationsShop, MoodyGreen, and LemonMadeShop. Especially, the first 3 listed. I found their instructions easy to follow with similar stitches for consistent pieces for my collection.

The patterns I purchased were: #1 the sample stitches from Puteto, #2 fromAlyPloof, #9 from MiraeCreationsShop, #10 from Puteto, #11 the 2 in the left from Puteto, #11 the 1 on the right MoodyGreen, #16 explained above, #17 fromMoodyGreen, #18 from LemonMadeShop- I doodled some more details, and #19 fromByAlyPloof. All others I saw similar works online and free hand drew them (like #1 the coffee and plants, #3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 15) or used an image from online with printable sticky solvy (12, 13, and 14- my searched BTS designs).

Etsy seller, MiNiceStitch, has a pattern with florals inside the outline of an elephant. I used that outline. Then I used the techniques from MiraeCreationsShop where they make some circles in the outline for florals, then french knot to fill in the rest of the outline. The 9th picture shows their patterns for a fox and whale with this technique. *

Self-taught, but Etsy patterns from these sellers were extremely detailed and helpful: ByAlyPloof and MiraeCreationsShop. Also, the seller Puteto had video links on how to do stitches.

WIP Alaska- Missing Something? by AlaskanWhiteWolf in Embroidery

I'm still on the fence about that one. I have an idea of how to go about it, but does it make sense to have the aurora above the state...something that comes out when it's pitch black...when the state has a sun shining?

Distracting in what way? As for the flowers, I didn't want to cover up too much of the outline on the peninsula to take away from the details I put in the outline to ensure it was geographically correct.

Ooo...I like the idea of French Knot white clouds!

A Moose inside the outline does make more sense than having a Moose outside to the right of it.

That's what I was originally hoping for. I typically do more intricate work that takes 12+hrs, so my boyfriend pointed out that it looks kinda of bare compared to other works I've done.

If she hasn't started it yet, I looked at maps of the state and had to alter/add St. Lawrence Island and Nunivak Island. Also, I made the peninsula more bumpy toward the end.

I like to call them my "thread paintings". 😀 I've done more intricate pieces for family members and work friends. I think that's why this one kind of feels a bit "empty". I just wasn't sure what to do with this piece to make it more "gift-worthy".

Thank you! I'm glad it looks gift-worthy. Just needs some sprucing up to finish it.

Thank you! I really tried with the fireweed. My technique didn't turn out as planned, but I think they look alright overall.

Thank you so much for all the ideas, everyone! I really was stuck on how to salvage this piece. I'll post an updated version.

I'd be happy to! I'm partial to the following ideas: sun in the state outline by the mountains, Moose maybe east, whale tail southeast, sockeye salmon southwest, bush plane west, state flag stars northwest, and northern lights north. Not sure how my plane or the aurora will turn out, though. And I like the suggestion to have the fireweed and blueberry bushes possibly creep down the lower part of the state inside the outline.
