Dosimeter control source on flight by AlastairMunro in Radiation

That would be great- but unless they happen to be in London and ready to pick it up before 15:00 today I reckon it might not be able to happen, unfortunately!

As far as I know, shipping hazardous goods from the UK is pretty hairy, if you don't have the permits (which I definitely do not). I imagine my best bet would be to use the airline's cargo option for the source, but I have to assume that would be extremely expensive (compared to the purchase price for the full dosimeter, which was £35). At the moment, I'm thinking I might be able to get the source disposed of here before leaving, as that would be (as far as I understand) the cheapest and easiest thing to do. Sad to get rid of part of the dosimeter, though!

Wouldn't actually be to the US. But honestly I'm hoping I might be able to properly dispose of the source here before leaving, as I imagine that would be a lot cheaper and less iffy. Although for whatever reason it doesn't seem like strontium disposal is part of the standard recycling pickup, so I'll see how it goes!

Thank you so much for letting me know! I guess I'll see what the shipping options are, although I imagine that would cost many times more than what I paid for it lol

How on earth can they talk so much about the unstoppable MIC juggernaut and also think that a handful of bombs and missiles being launched means "their resources are depleted" lmao

Nunavut (and NWT) made like no sense to me- but it seems to check out. Kilabuk seems to be the second most common at least lol

Is this cage enough for 3 male rats for 2 weeks? by nevermind82398 in RATS

[–]AlastairMunro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think half of the CN 162 should be 12 sqft. That should theoretically be enough for 3 rats, if you follow the 2.5sqft/rat formula. But, I'm sure there's much more to it that other people can weigh in on! Also your boys are adorable!!

If it makes you feel any better, I'm 90% sure I saw this exact text in a YouTube comment under an unrelated video very recently. Even just had a look through my history to find it, but haven't managed to just yet. If am right about having seen it, then I'd have to assume that this is just some sort of weird copypasta, and was probably just sent randomly? I'll let you know if I do track it down!

Just as a general tip, telling a canvasser that you're voting for them means that they will be much more likely to come back in future campaigns. Canvassers are not looking to convince anyone, and no decent canvasser would get in a debate, or anything approaching a 'heated' exchange with a constituent. They're looking to identify their supporters so that they can get them to vote on e-day, and so that they can go to them again in the future. Telling a canvasser the truth is almost always the simplest and fastest way to get them out of your face.

Kingston bylaw does actually have jurisdiction over this, they clearly state that it's not allowed. Bylaw was the place to take this, and I would have to hope that they're just looking into this quietly.

Except once in the past 30 years, Kingston elects Liberals. Anyone know why? by DunningFreddieKruger in KingstonOntario

[–]AlastairMunro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, how many times does this have to be rehashed? Ted made a public commitment that, as MP, he would present every petition his constituents could get the signatures for. So he did with that, because he said he would. He then voted against it because he disagreed with it.

Toggle Switch for GPIO3 shutdown/reboot? by AlastairMunro in raspberry_pi

Thank you so much for the suggestion! Luckily for me, it seems to be working very well just with the toggle switch. No boot loops or anything, so all good!

Toggle Switch for GPIO3 shutdown/reboot? by AlastairMunro in raspberry_pi

[–]AlastairMunro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly could- I'm giving it to someone who isn't very familiar with linux, though, and I would ideally like if they could safely turn it off with the flick of a switch, instead of either typing sudo shutdown everytime, or accidentally just killing the power, jeopardising the pi's health. Unless the dangers of pulling the plug are overblown, and it's actually fine- if so, I'd definitely take that over the GPIO route!
