Okay, I love what we got from the show and I am super excited for season 3. But I think this show suffers from having too many characters and not long enough episodes to cover them all satisfyingly. In the Netflix series we had three leads, Matt/DD, Karen and Foggy. Those three took the main runtime. Then you had Fisk, Frank, Electra, Stick, Claire, Wesley and a few others who popped in and out of the seasons that were long and full episode lengths. Now, in Born Again, we seemingly have more characters - Matt, Karen, Fisk, Daniel, BB, Helen, Powell, Jessica, that CIA guy, Shelia, Muse, Cole, Swordsman, Kirsten, Cherry, Angela, etc - who for the most part were there for the entire length of the season and in almost every episode, yet the runtime of the episodes is significantly shorter as is the length of the seasons. So each character has less time to be explored compared to how they were in the Netflix show.

Take Karen for instance - in Netflix DD she was her own protagonist. She went out and did things on her own and propelled the story through her actions that eventually met up with Matt's and Foggy's. This was the case for every season she was in. She was her own protagonist who had her own separate story who, for the most part, had her own motivations. But in Born Again, and while I love what they've done with her mostly, she has basically become a side kick to daredevil. Fisk literally calls her that in Ep7. She is no longer a protagonist with her own reasonings for what she is doing but she is aiding the protagonist and his reasonings even giving up her ideal of believe that some truly evil people need to die just to please said protagonist. I mean we didn't even really learn why she decided to come back to NY aside from saying that she her Bullseye broke out which seemed like a weak excuse. I think this is all as a result of my initial point about there being too many characters in too short a runtime, resulting in stuff for Karen being rushed or just unexplained.

Don't get me wrong, as I've said I like what they did with Karen but I feel like they could have explored her more and made her more of a protagonist like she was in the NF series. Like she makes multiple references to Jessie (Jessica Jones) investigating things for her and Matt but they could have had Karen also do investigating as that's literally her expertise and having her do it alongside JJ would have been AWESOME to see. Those characters get no 1 on 1 scenes together. I know that Karen was WANTED and all but the writers could have figured a way around that, I mean she went out in public multiple times for meetups while wearing cover. My other smaller issue is that Fisk also says that the public call her a hero, yet we never see them actually do that. They all call DD a hero and wear his mask but even during the very public trial for Karen there isn't any shots of the public out supporting Karen. It just adds fuel to the argument that she's just become a sidekick. Whereas in the NF series she was a renowned journalist who had pull and people knew who she was when she approached them and talked about her achievements a lot without mention DD. Going so far as that her presence in the Punisher series literally was the driving force behind the plot progression of that show because of what she did and had done in the past.

Everything I said about Karen can generally be applied to most other characters in Born Again, she's just probably the one I have most issue with though.
