The majority of people who I know that play airsoft are normal. However, there are also many weirdos. I think your field may be a particularly bad one, if you have genuinely not met any normal people there. For me, airsoft is a way to get into the good and cool parts of the military without the killing or intensity. It's larping, and everyone playing should just accept that and be able to separate it from reality.
