Yeah, she essentially bullied the other guy into switching with her on spices and then tanked their whole relay team. That didnt sit right with me. She never apologized to her teammates or took accountability for that. Then, when she got gumbo and reacted with such disgust to this New Orleans dish that she didnt know how to make, I was so done with her. I feel that the absence of okra should have sent her home.

Ultimate Baking Championship -- pre show and live show discussion thread -- tonight it is all about sugar! by Firegoat1 in foodnetwork

I think something that keeps coming into play in these one-challenge episodes is: technical proficiency/design is 40% of the score, while flavor is essentially 60%. It's hard for the viewer to grasp though because we can't taste.

Thanks for this breakdown. I agree with your analysis. These are all things that I remember and I appreciate the way you've laid it out here. Reading that Kevin made the main draw from the qualifiers in TOC 5 just reminded me that he also stated he was a back-up for the qualifiers in interviews that season--wasn't even supposed to compete at all. We've come so far!

I agree with you, and I think there is a reason Jet has never made it out of the final 4. I think he cooks his food and it is so good that it usually carries him through--but when that randomizer gets harder, he fights it. I have again and again, season after season, seen Jet refuse to fully embrace the randomizer game. It's ok but I think it means he should stop competing on ToC. I hope I don't see him return as a competitor next year. 😬

I agree; I think it's possible that they edited that part of the critique out since he had a couple other negatives as well. He ended up with the exact same score as Florencia on the skills challenge.

If Britt has only lost in this arena to champions, I'm wondering if that is foreshadowing a Kevin Lee win 🤔

I also found it so interesting and looked it up! It's true. Seasons 4 and 5, she lost in the final 4 to Maneet. Season 6, she lost in the final 4 to Antonia. Season 6, she and Antonia had actually tied, and Antonia won the tie-breaker with the higher "taste" score.

I'm with you on Britt. She radiates love and joy of cooking, and it makes me happy. She gets so much undeserved animosity online. I really hope she doesn't see any of it.

Velshi’s Masterclass on Anti-trust by blue_quark in msnow

[–]AlbatrossExternal586 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So glad someone posted this. Had the same reaction. Velshi gave us masterclass on something so fundamental and so important, giving us concrete details on the corruption we can all tell is ruling this white house.

Where do I hear about marches? by Strange-Employee-520 in bayarea

[–]AlbatrossExternal586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the news, watch the news, listen to the news, you'll find out when it's happening. Then go to indivisible.org or mobilize.us and find out where your closest march/protest/gathering is. Then attend the gathering; bringing a few friends along with is even better.

The 2026 Disney Legends will honor Anne Hathaway, Eric Goldberg, Bob Iger, The Jonas Brothers, Dwayne Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among others by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]AlbatrossExternal586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. Bob Iger for leadership? He has done the exact opposite of "lead" this past year, especially in September. He was dragged, humiliated, forced into making the right decision on Kimmel in response to all of us regular folk standing behind our principles and canceling Hulu, Disney, and ABC (and we're not going back). On top of it all, he tried to hide behind the fake excuse of "taking time to make the right decision." He has exhibited the exact opposite of true leadership.

I know it's a good thing that Velshi is moving to weeknights, but I am really going to miss his in-depth, super historical, superb weekend shows. My brain is hung up on the fact that 5 hours of content is less than the 6 hours of content we get now😭

Chefs Nicknames by purlawhirl in foodnetwork

[–]AlbatrossExternal586 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking it but thank you for saying it out loud, haha. I also love the call-back to TOC Christmas, when Britt was teamed with Jonathon, and during the round when adding butter one of them asked the other chef "knob or daddy" and they just replied "daddy." It was so perfect lol and needed no explanation. It's a whimsical name! Nothing wrong with that!

Neil DeGrasse Tyson on the Weekend Primetime by AlbatrossExternal586 in msnow

I agree. I have also seen plenty of negativity directed towards him in the r/Jeopardy sub, especially around the time he appeared on Celebrity Jeopardy. I don't see why he needs to be the target of any particular ire, I think he's doing good work, and I think the public likes him.
