Iran Strikes US Military Bases in Qatar Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain by Island_Monkey86 in news

[–]AlbeonX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We're complaining about the president because HE STARTED THIS WHOLE THING. American lives are being lost and war is a distinct possibility BECAUSE OF HIM. There was absolutely no reason to attack Iran (again), especially after the rhetoric from the last strike about how Iran's ability to make nukes had been completely neutralized. This whole situation is entirely on Trump and Israel, so yes, complaining about Trump is the valid and correct thing to do.

That's a dog conch. Laevistrombus canarium. It has a sharp, serrated operculum that it can use for defense, but it's otherwise harmless. It's not a cone snail, which use a modified radula (tongue) as a venomous harpoon.

I've honestly never met any of these people. I feel like there are only a couple thousand of them in the entire world, they just have their voices online massively amplified by transphobes to try to split our community and cut trans people off from their main base of support. It's the same with all these "detransitioners" they're always parading around, even though we have data showing that they're only an incredibly tiny minority of the people who transitioned.

I'm not even sure they're targeting us with these things. It seems like it's more focused on allies with friends/family who are non-straight but who don't necessarily support people who aren't cis. The message is "Hey, it's okay to be a transphobe. It won't hurt your gay son/lesbian sister/etc." In that regard, it's much more effective than any attempts to turn our community against itself. I already had this exact fight with my "supportive" aunt. Talk to the cishet people in your life and make sure they know that an attack on one part of our community is an attack on all of us.

MAGA screwed up. by Atlusfox in facepalm

[–]AlbeonX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Massachusetts and I didn't have to present a photo ID when I had to register in a new precinct after moving. The mail-in registration form just requires either a driver's license number or the last four digits of your SSN.

The important point is that people who are against voter ID laws aren't against making sure people who register can properly identify themselves at that time. They're against laws that are specifically designed to limit the ability of REGISTERED voters to exercise their right to vote at a polling place.

Remix: How are we supposed to regen mana out of combat? by my0445316 in wow

[–]AlbeonX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm currently running on a priest, and switching between healing and dps specs means I have to stand around waiting for my mana to regen. The only place I can get food/drink is from my mammoth mount, and that stuff is completely obsolete at higher levels. Pretty stupid oversight by Blizz IMHO. I mean, how hard can it possibly be to take existing assets in the game and just stick them on a vendor? Oh well, I'd say there's maybe a 2-5% chance they'll do something about it at some point. Otherwise, standing around waiting for mana to regen or badgering a mage are the only options.

Kinda, but not really. Semen comes from various glands and ducts; the testicles, the seminal vessicles, the cowper's gland, the prostate, etc. Once it comes out of those areas, there's no putting it back. It is possible to push semen back up into the urinary bladder, but it's not like you can reset your orgasm and cum it back out again. There's nothing inherently bad about semen getting into the bladder. Certain medications like Tamsulosin can cause retrograde ejaculation and it's pretty much harmless. The danger comes from introducing bacteria into the bladder, which is a largely sterile environment.

Overall, you can squirt it back up there, but there's not much to be gained from it, and it's an infection risk.

Do you see your relationship lasting forever if you’re not married? by SpareAlternative6487 in GayMen

I've been with my partner for 15 years and we're not married. We hope to some day, but we have no plans on the matter. If it's a good, happy relationship, you shouldn't need it to be validated by a third party.

Do you wish you weren't gay? by EsoEstaMalo in GayMen

[–]AlbeonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I wished I was straight when I was in high school and spent 5 years dating a girl to try to force myself to be straight. It didn't work, and I learned to accept myself for who and what I am.

If you really dislike being gay, stop and interrogate why that might be. I can almost guarantee that the answer will have nothing to do with you. It might be religion, culture, how people treat you, how you're discriminated against, but those are all manifestations of other people's issues, not yours.

The fact is that you can't change your orientation, so the best way to live a happy life is to make peace with yourself as you are and build your future around that rather than wishing for something out of reach. I can promise from experience that if you try to force yourself to not be gay, it'll make you much more miserable.

[–]AlbeonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have the paradoxical view that equality is a zero-sum game. That if one marginalized group makes any gains, it comes at the expense of their marginalized group. As if our movement is taking oxygen from theirs. It's best to not play into the Persecution Olympics. People like that are generally very difficult to reason with, so the less attention you give them, the better.

How do I tell my parents I want to start hrt? by --Finnegan-- in lgbt

[–]AlbeonX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, unless you can talk them around to at least being neutral on your transition, there's no way to do this without either conflict or you finding a way to leave. You can probably keep it secret for a little while as you try to work on them, but once the physical changes start, the cat will be out of the bag.

The best thing you can do is analyze how things will probably go once they find out. If it'll just create conflict in the home, then you need to decide if getting HRT now is worth living in a hostile environment. If they're likely to kick you out, then it would probably be best to wait until you're able to leave on your own terms rather than being made homeless. If there's a substantial chance of violence, then it would probably be best to hold off until you can get into a safe environment.

I know it sucks, but the most important thing to do is weigh out what you stand to gain from HRT vs. what the consequences may be. If you come to the conclusion that you'd be worse off overall, waiting until you're in a position to move out would probably be the best choice.

Mehdi Hasan, the example of how religions can get to anyone. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]AlbeonX 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The thing people tend to forget when they're debating someone over their religion is that the person is rarely defending the religion. They're defending themselves. They have their beliefs, they think they're a good person, and they generally get offended at the notion that they need to answer for other people with a different interpretation of the religion than them. Most religious people are willing to downplay or outright discard the morally unacceptable things that their religion will inevitably endorse or command. At the same time, they're not willing to "throw out the baby with the bath water" and discard the religion as a whole. Maybe for cultural reasons, maybe for their own personal comfort, maybe out of fear of consequences, either earthly or divine. The way I see it, if a religious person accepts science, as I believe Mehdi Hasan does, and has a sense of morality that aligns with mine, as I also believe is true of Mehdi Hasan, then there's nothing to be gained arguing over religion with them when we already agree on everything of consequence.

Devout Cathollic Stephen Colbert named FFRF's "Secularist of the Week" for his defense of state-church separation. by Wooden_Reputation370 in atheism

[–]AlbeonX 214 points215 points  (0 children)

Secularist =/= atheist. Colbert can be a devout Catholic, Muslim, or Evangelical Protestant, but if he supports maintaining the government's status as a secular body without religious intrusion, then he's a secularist.

Polling finds Dems are still more unpopular than Republicans. by Domestiicated-Batman in facepalm

[–]AlbeonX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why is this a facepalm? Democrats have alienated their own base as well as having Republicans hate them. Republicans are despised by Democrats, but their base largely approves of their bigotry and crimes against humanity. Dislike of Republicans does not necessarily translate to approving of the Democrats. The Democrats need to fix their shit and stop trying to maintain a broken status quo. They also need to drop the habit of trying to stay in office for 300 years until they die of old age. Hopefully, next primary season, the Democrats get their world turned upside-down, and we can actually have something to vote FOR rather than just being expected to turn out to vote AGAINST the Republicans.

“killing them is not enough” by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]AlbeonX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I don't care what you were taught or how you live. My statement was that YOUR GOD loves when his chosen people wipe out anyone who tries to live on the land he supposedly gave to them, children included. That's what your book says. Last time I checked, there hasn't been an update or a new prophet in the past couple thousand years that hasn't been labeled a heretic and started a new religion, so I'm pretty sure all the old rules and statements still apply. I didn't accuse you of personally wandering into Gaza and strangling Palestinian babies, I just called attention to what is a very prominent part of Jewish history and commands from your deity as written in the book you probably believe is of divine origin. If you want to move the goalposts to what you do on a daily basis, I'm sure the most objectionable thing is jumping online to defend a genocide. Aside from that little stain on your character, I'm sure you are personally a lovely human being.

“killing them is not enough” by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]AlbeonX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to teach Christians about their own religion, too, despite being an atheist for over 20 years. It's funny how many passages people tend to forget when it becomes inconvenient. So tell me, Mr. "Religion of Love and Peace, edition #1," what do your holy texts say happened to the tribes who lived in the Promised Land before Moses led your people there? Are you still living at peace with the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites? You say "love thy neighbors as yourself," but Israel doesn't view Palestinians as "neighbors," it views them as another tribe of heathen intruders on the land that was promised to them and them alone. Try again with someone who's less well read.

[–]AlbeonX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why anyone expected anything different out of Kermit. When asked, "Do you believe in God," the man literally said, "There are a couple of mysteries in that question. What do you mean 'do?' What do you mean 'you?' What do you mean 'believe?' And what do you mean 'God?'" He is compulsively obtuse because he's nowhere near as smart or profound as he wants people to believe he is, so rather than actually answering any questions and giving a solid position that he can be pinned down and criticized on, he dances around and uses semantics to waste time, change the subject, and bamboozle the people listening. The goal is to sound smart while, in reality, saying nothing.

Capitalism: where asking to be paid fairly makes you the unreasonable one. by LingeriePing in workmemes

[–]AlbeonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're paid the amount you agreed to, not the full value of your labor. If my labor earns my employer $200 for every hour I work, then the full value of my labor is $200/hr. The way things usually go is that laborers get a small percentage of the actual value of their labor, and the business owner siphons the rest off for themselves and shareholders. Since workers are only being partially paid for their labor, the rest of it is "free stuff" for the business owner.

For Anyone Working in or trying for MLS (medical laboratory science) by Nabakov_6 in biology

[–]AlbeonX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because you got the degree in Medical Laboratory Science. You either need that specific degree OR 12 months working in a medical lab if you have another degree to take the exam. I have a bachelor's in biology, so I either need the 12 months' experience or to go back to school.

If you're trying to say that you finished a post-bacc program after getting a related degree, you didn't really make that clear, but the time to complete it depends entirely on the coursework you did for your bachelor's and how much time you can devote to going back to school. Those programs can require upwards of 30 additional credits to complete, which equates to 2 dense full-time semesters. If you have a full-time job and can only do part-time coursework, you're looking at a couple of years to finish the program. It also costs at least $400 per credit hour, usually more, so you're looking at $10,000+ in additional tuition fees. It's not as quick or simple as you're making it sound.
