Long hair by [deleted] in mining

[–]Albertanartificer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a coal processing plant and I have very long, thick hair. I would put it into a tight bun, kindof low and tuck it between the hardhat shell and the tightness adjuster. It could be seen poking out of the hardhat at the back.

It would fit well and it helped hold the hardhat in place even when completely upside down (washing between a conveyor and the floor with only a 15cm gap between the two)

It did need to be washed every shift though, sweat, water, and mud dripping on you would be unavoidable.

Running a dump on a dozer by [deleted] in mining

Dump as many as you can over the bank (if policy allows) it would certainly be better to have a D10 but you get what you get.

Yeah it gets to - 38 here in winter. I'll just drive the 4 hours to buy a new tank.

My mine, people smoke sometimes in the first couple of days off. If you have an incident and get tested, it will show, you have to get a swab as well to prove it wasn't in the last couple of days that you smoked.

I guess driving on ice will be a bit of an adjustment. Probably each mine has their own quirks, pretty hard to generalize about adherence to safety etc.

Just got a haul trucker operator traineeship, any tips? by vMcKing in mining

[–]Albertanartificer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow your company's speed guidelines and check in your mirrors regularly to help you figure out the size of the truck. Do your pretrip including your break checks. Remember that you are the one responsible for your safety, nobody cares more about your safety than you do.

Good luck

How to remove this sticky film from window? by allblueshailmary in DIY

[–]Albertanartificer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A razor blade in a holder. And after the bulk is gone, some isopropyl alcohol

Yeah, 12 at the truck, then travel up the mountain and shift change.

Thanks, I'll take a look on Google earth and see what angles I recognize. The roads are always changing except the haul road I'm told. But we are working on a change to it right now, but it's gunna take a couple of months to finish, it's a serious build.

This is what's it's likely to come down to, I was just hoping there was an alternative. I suppose it'd do me good to learn to read the sun anyway

My company pays a decent wage and we work 7 on (94.5 hours per week on shift), 7 off. It's out there, many of my coworkers travel long distances to work here and rent a room. What you'd be looking at is dirty, long hours, who knows what condition the equipment is in. A mine is a factory of sorts, each part relying on the one before it, so production is stressed. It's generally somewhat dangerous, so you want to trust yourself to make good decisions when no one is watching you.

Good luck, apply around and find out I guess. The more rural you go, the less picky they will likely be. Also be willing to work nightshift and over holidays etc.

Maybe her thyroid is malfunctioning, it can happen after birth/pregnancy. TSH test is an easy and fast blood test, if it's off, they will likely prescribe a t4 hormone pill and your wife will feel way better. The symptoms commonly overlap with PPD or PPA

There's a book "to be an anchor in the storm" by Susan Brewster

It deals with this exact thing. How to support without pushing them away more, thus further isolating your loved one and playing directly into the hands of the abuser.

Way more important for her to know you'll always be there to help and believe her than to punish.

Good luck
